Hi Guys,
Our company would like to try Google Apps particularly their email which has a 30 day trial. What we want is to try a single email account using our own domain. We have 150 total email accounts here in our company and we are using a local inhouse mail server with mx records and pointing to our static IP.
My question is:
If we setup a single user for example user1@ourcompanydomain.com for google apps and setup mx records dns etc., will it affect the email reception of the other 149 users?
What will be the best course of action for us to try google apps?
Thanks again in advance!

Your best bet would probably to to set up a subdomain to test it so you don’t have to mess with the MX records on your main domain. You could also try to just set up the a redirection or forwarding rule for that address.
What are you wanting to test?
Hi thanks for your reply,
We need to test if we can migrate our existing inbox.
We are using local domino server btw and lotus notes. Is it compatible with Gmail? or just keep the mail server alive and
connect via imap or something. We also like to test calendar functionality and ease of use. Most of our users actually are already familiar with gmail. =)
Is it possible to just add our existing mail server to a lower priority mx record? or will google immediately reply with a “non existing email account” if we do that setup?

Certain legacy routing settings for Gmail, Email routing, Sending routing, and Receiving routing are now deprecated and will be removed from the Admin console. Until that time, the settings are s

You can setup dual delivery for your domain. I’d leave your current server as the primary.
We are a google partner and use tools that make migrating from lotus to google pretty easy. The free tools from google work well but we use a third party tool. The small cost saves us tons of time and effort.
The challenge with Notes are the apps. The email is easy to move
When I tested Google Apps I used a different domain than our main email. We had one domain we just used for a web site. It’s much safer to do that so you don’t affect anything regarding your existing email.
Don’t bother changing MX records, creating sub domains or even dual/split delivery.
Just forward the mail of that one user from your mail server to your new Google apps temporary email address – you can find it in the alias section of the Google Apps user.
We’d be happy to assist in setting up your trial and demonstrating the migration from Notes.

Hi everyone thanks again for all your help. =) We will be testing now on a different domain.
Our management is really eager to migrate because of the obvious advantages of cloud email.
