The new community site is speedily approaching, and that means, of course, the opportunity to get a shiny new badge… maybe even two!

Here’s what you have to do:

We want as many people as possible to go visit the community playground site ( https://community2.spiceworks.com/ ) on Wednesday, February 21st and test it a LOT. Go ahead and try to break it. Try everything, see what works and what doesn’t. Make a zillion posts, chat with the other people there (yes, the new site has chat). Experience Dark Mode. Ask a funny question (not an important one, since the information on that site will be erased later). Do a lot of stuff in a row and see if the site can handle it all. Group up with your friends and compete to see who can make the most posts.

To get the coveted Load Tester badge, post on the Playground site in the Site Feedback category, on February 21st, listing anything you liked, disliked, or that looked wrong while you were testing, and link to your current-community account. If you do that, I will award the badge to your account here on the existing site (because the badge doesn’t exist over there yet).

Additionally, if you want the Playground badge to go along with it, then post here in this post, on this site, and tell me what you think of the new site, and you will also get the Playground badge:

You can get this second badge more than once, so even if you already got it last time I posted about it, feel free to post here and get it again (as long as you do the associated testing too).

I think they are going to bring the pictures back at some point (at least on the top carousel), but ran into a snag so it had to be delayed a bit.

One day I’ll figure out dark mode, but today is not that day…

Wait, actually had a look around, it’s in dark mode now. So much easier on the eyes. But my only feedback (from the 3 seconds that I’ve been looking at this page), wouldn’t these tick boxes look better in Spiceworks orange?

Hmm I thought I had the playground badge already but don’t see it. Image handling on the new site is far superior to here. Just being able to paste an image rather than having to upload it is huge. It seems to allow larger images as well (Uploaded a large image it scaled it to 1920x909)

I really like the new site design. The nav sidebar and adjusted layout of list of posts & featured entries makes things look a bit more functional and feel more understandable to use. Overall a significant improvement in the site’s UX imho

I wasn’t a fan of the Discourse framework at first because it wasn’t working under Waterfox Classic (claiming it was unsupported/outdated) and it seemed that I’d have switch browsers once the new Community site went live. However, it seems to be working now (at least as far as not throwing out the warning) so that’s a plus.

Edit: looks like I spoke too soon on that whole “working” bit. Posting a reply message to SpiceBot isn’t working under Waterfox Classic but works fine under Firefox.

Is there any way to test this using the Spiceworks Phone App?

I was trying to view badges and it locked up on me.

I was clicking on this button and it locked up the site for me.

First, can you please post this feedback in the “Site Feedback” area on the other site? ( https://community2.spiceworks.com/c/site-feedback/2 ) … that way the product team will see it. They are the ones who can fix it.

Second, is that happening for you on every badge you look at, or only that one, or only certain ones? I just tried one and it worked, but not sure if I am missing what triggers it… like maybe you don’t have permission to look at any, or maybe that badge is glitched, or ???

I’ve been going back and forth whenever I remember (Which isn’t much!). Liking the layout and how easy it is to jump between feeds and posts

I like the new slider navigation at the top of the posts. I also like how the editor on the new site doesn’t take you down to the bottom of the page. Overall, I think this is a good upgrade!
