Hello,

the last version of on-prem Spiceworks has been discontinued

You can look into Spiceworks Cloud Help Desk

Which product do you want?

Inventory online?

Cloud helpdesk?

Helpdesk server (OVA)?

Legacy app?

If you can clarify I will post you the link,

According to your Spiceworks community profile, you’re a longtime user of the discontinued legacy Windows edition of the Spiceworks desktop app. And you’re already so long in our community that you might not be aware of our field guides introduced many years later. Some of their recommendations are not only for Spiceheads new to our community. So you might perhaps familiar with the recommendations on pos(t)ing good questions but not yet with the recommendations of the references found further down on its web page.

  • What’s the latest version which you did download and install resp. update to of that discontinued legacy Windows edition of Spiceworks desktop app?

Version 7.5.00107 is already the latest version of this discontinued legacy Windows edition of the Spiceworks desktop app. And you seem to have started with version 7.0 or 7.1. (Spiceworks does not recognize to have a counting bug to be of by 1 although having it reported several times. Such counting bugs are implemented several times at several contexts.) And as this edition has not received and updates since 2018, it might be likely that you already have updated in the meantime to the latest version and that you may already have its installer somewhere in your company.

  • Where did you find this link when?

In May 2021, Spiceworks announced end of support and EOL for this legacy Windows edition of the Spiceworks desktop app. This announcement clarified in which steps end of support will be reached. So Spiceworks promised to remove the download option by 30 June 2021. But Spiceworks had some delays. It tool almost two weeks until Spiceworks removed the download link of its publications while keeping the download option. So if you found that download link after mid-July 2021, it should have been in some topic of our community but not in an official Spiceworks publication.

This download link was working until Spring 2022 although Spiceworks promised to remove it by 30 June 2021. By end of June 2022, there happened another accident to the content management of Spiceworks which affected at least the download options for Spiceworks Help Desk Server (HDS) and the discontinued legacy Windows edition of the Spiceworks Inventory desktop app. Both links were removed and redirected to other much older content. After reporting the lost links, the download option of HDS got restored after about half a week. But the lost download option of the discontinued legacy Windows edition remains lost.

That’s the standard HTTP 404 error page of Spiceworks. So all is fine as announced in the EOL announcement of that discontinued legacy Windows edition of Spiceworks in May 2021. I’m only wondering why I get the standard HTTP 404 error page instead of the standard HTTP 404 error page of Spiceworks for some other (moved) content of Spiceworks like its developers blog, yesterday. Both are official Spiceworks publications. So I would have expected either the same error page of Spiceworks or some permanent HTTP redirect.

We like to help you. But we did not yet understand what you want for which purpose nor what you already have. So please clarify.

If you’re looking for a download option of a supported edition of Spiceworks Inventory, I’ve to clarify that no such download option exists. In August 2018, Spiceworks announced tha availability of its public Cloud edition Spiceworks Inventory Online and of plans for porting it for download as a companion to Spiceworks Help Desk Server, but starting with HDS and not having started implementation in its inventory companion. Spiceworks has repeated this state of development when announcing the availability of its first version of HDS, back in September 2019. The situation has not changed since Spiceworks has plans to port Spiceworks Inventory Online to Spiceworks Inventory as a companion to HDS and has not started implementation. There exists also a feature request for such porting. Feel free to vote it up. But active development of HDS has been suspended in Spring 2021 (beside a short security fix in December 2021) and not yet started for Spiceworks Inventory. The above mentioned EOL announcement promised a review of suspension of development for HDS to be held in December 2021 with results becoming published in December 2021. But Spiceworks did not keep its word. We don’t know if such review has even started. So we don’t know if such review has been postponed or interrupted. But we know that no such review has finished and hence no results got published.

So if you were searching for a supported version of Spiceworks Inventory, then your only option will be Spiceworks Inventory Online. It is a public Spiceworks Cloud solution. That’s why you can’t download it. You’ve to set it up by a few configuration steps as documented . It works a little bit different of what you were used of the discontinued legacy Windows edition. It does not come with an agent-less mode. So if you want to use it, you’ll need at least one of its two agents downloaded and configured as documented.

As far as I can see, you’re located in the US. And as it does not seem to have subsidiaries in other countries, you might not be affected by a known bug rendering most of the collection service of the Spiceworks Collection Agent dysfunctional. So for your situation, the Spiceworks public Cloud solution should work. It is supported although coming with a smaller feature set as promised in its documentation.

So if you want help to get a supported version of Spiceworks help desk NOW, you’ve the choice between HDS and CHD. HDS is available for download and comes in three editions (of same version). But if you want help desk and inventory in a supported version of Spiceworks NOW, then CHD will be your only option. It comes with several public Cloud companions addressing different parts of inventory. Currently implemented are Spiceworks Inventory Online, Spiceworks Connectivity Dashboard and Spiceworks Vendor Contracts.

You may post a link for the legacy app. But if you only have the link to a Spiceworks web page, then it will no longer download the legacy app, probably since end of June 2022. It was the link that the OP had already found. I don’t know if some 3rd party public software repositories do still offer a download option.

I found some 3rd party public software repository still offering a download option to the legacy Windows Desktop App edition of Spiceworks Help Desk and Inventory. It’s here on SoftPedia .

Thanks again @scheff1 but I have my own repository of Spiceworks product going back many years.

I have no desire to search online for a link for someone else - they can do that themselves along with the consequences of what downloads.

  • Do you have HDS and its documentation also in your repository, in which formats?

https://download.spiceworks.com/Help-Desk-Server/1.3.4/vmware/Help-Desk-Server-vmware-1.3.4.ova

I do not keep documentation for 3rd party products
