for some reason IE, chrome etc take ages to load the first page. Even when I leave the window open and open another window - it still takes ages to open the first page, every tab after that is ok
any ideas what it might be? I already ran ccleaner, reset IE settings. We do use proxy, but it’s the same with & without proxy. I’ve also set the startup page in IE to blank but that didn’t help either

Had that with a user the other day but only noticed it with IE. Turned out it was an add-on. Try disabling any add-ons you may have and see if that changes things. This was the case even when loading a blank page on startup.

This is particularly prevalent with various toolbars in IE. Yahoo!, Bing, and the various security programs (but especially Norton) tend to be the worst offenders. Check the system for ALot (sic) toolbar, Ask, Babylon, etc, etc. In short: remove any toolbars the user isn’t actively using all the time.
Chrome is very memory intensive. Still I doubt you hit the cap.
Like I tell most users with IE, try opening chrome in safe mode
"Find your copied Chrome shortcut, right click on it and select “Properties”.
Select the “Target” field and append “–incognito” to the end of the command.
Click “Apply” and then “Okay” to save your changes.

If it works in safe mode and you cannot find the extension, Just wipe out any trace of Chrome on that system and re-install it.

Try browsing to the same site via IP address to see if it speeds up. No proxy servers? It could be any number of things such as add ons causing the slow initial page load.

Check the network how is it, if it’s fine, then take a look to the user profile, try deleting it from the local PC and creating a new one (obviously backing up the files) with a new login.

I tried logging on with my profile and it’s the same thing

I had to deal with this the other day on IE for a user . . .
Derek’s precisely right, try disabling the Shockwave Object Player add-on and see what that does. If it’s the culprit, as it was here, you’ll need to uninstall and reinstall it, for which you’ll need to download the uninstaller for that add-on.

Mine was a different add-on but I find with stuff like this, it’s usually an add-on of some kind that is doing it. Or many of them that just get added over time.
Add-on’s add-on’s add-on’s can cause lots of issues, remove/uninstall them.
Toolbars (just made a report strictly for them) annoying, remove them
Check the background processes and see whats running.
I had a user who when opening 1 window of IE, it would open up twice 1 under her log in, and one under some anonymous log in, MalwareBytes took care of that issue. (someone running the worst screen hijacker ever)

I ran IE in safemode (iexplore -extoff) and it was the same - so it can’t be any extensions
Could be a virus, did you scan your PC?

ran a quick scan with malwarebytes; it didn’t find anything & have symantec endpoint protection cloud running all the time
Mmmm…Restore the system to a previous date :S
Try changing your connection preferences from “auto detect”. Just leave it blank instead, and see if that helps.
For IE, I can almost guarantee you its a java addon that needs to be disabled. Do they work under administrator account? If they do, and do not work under a regular user account that is your culprit
Did you check background processes when you were loading up internet explorer? How much RAM is it running? I have to say I feel like its add-ons of some sort, but its possible you could have something else running. Whats using all of your CPU power or RAM power when its loading?

Try deselecting “Automatically detect settings” in IE.

pc is now running proper slow, apparently the user had the same issue before I started (not so long ago) so will probably replace the pc - not the newest pc anyway
