Has anyone else noticed more end-users asking basic questions on how to fix something that is wrong with their PC. Was spiceworks linked to something without explaining what we actually do here?

I feel like I am in such a funny grey area of this forum. I pretty much stick to the water cooler xD because I find a currently lack the knowledge on anything past helpdesk level/fixing end users whining and moaning, but there aren’t a lot of questions here about those types of issues because you can google them easy. And well the rest I don’t respond to because they are exactly what you’re talking about.

I just got new aka clearly stolen computer. How reset password? x_x

It happens in waves. A tragic part of being out there is that spiceworks shows up on google.

Someone will google “fix pc network” or something and they’ll find us, create an account, and ask “fix pc network” then forget they ever did it.

That’s why being a moderator is fun because when these pop up we get to pull out the banhammer, it’s like whack-a-mole but with people and instead of crushing highs scores you’re crushing someone’s hopes and dreams (and telling them to go to Yahoo answers)

So if you see things like this, tell a mod. or flag it, or don’t I’m a post not a cop.

I have noticed that Google has been taking me to Spiceworks more often when I Google things. We could blame ‘The Google.’

I one time saw a whack-a-mole game at Chuckie Cheese that had the words “hope” and “dream” written on the various moles foreheads… it made it much more fun to play.

I found a picture of you on the internet yesterday:

I’ve noticed quite a bit of posts like that recently. My favorite was a vague start-up wanting a network plan where it would just “work without having to mess with it”. Basically came here for free consultation.

Word is definitely getting out. For better and for worse.

Yeah, as a mod, there have been more things to kill off… just makes me wonder when SW will get around to sponsoring some kind of forum for end users where we are asked to volunteer as technical experts…

It started when they let you sign up with FaceBerk or LinkedIn

I think that could be something of value; plus, it might be a more appropriate location for some of the marketing of a number of vendors.

I am a member of another forum for HVAC professionals that has a dedicated forum for homeowners and people that are not professionally associated with the industry. In order to post elsewhere in the forum you have to have some type of acceptable bona fides tying you to the trade. It does a really good job of keeping the DIY traffic isolated, and there are limitations to the type of information available and types of questions that will be answered. Beyond that scope, DIY’ers are advised to call a professional.

We had a customer ask exactly the same question and after our response we got the same answer as you.
