Does anyone have any experience with sites like Pluralsight, Lynda, etc. We are looking a good online resource for getting employees up to speed on diffident programming and IT technology. Mainly looking for ASP.NET, Javascript, Angular JS, HTML5, CSS5. But some SQL, Active Directory, Windows Development, Security. I am sure there is no one good fit that would get all of this, but was looking for something that would Give a good intermediate level knowledge and would give a bases for more advanced levels.

The link to linuses lyndas page is - LinkedIn Learning with Lynda: Online Training Courses for Creative, Technology, Business Skills , you get a 7 day trial or something

Lynda gives a 10 day free trial. Since they merged with LinkedIn, they have extended the free trial, not sure what it is but I think it is longer than the 10 days.

Here, the LA county public library offers free Lynda training as long as you have your library card. I think I saw they have that in Charlotte but I am not sure about Raleigh. It’s worth looking in to.

I’m still learning how to use it but from what I have seen so far, you structure your own lesson plan…if you call it structuring. I haven’t found the correct way to utilize it just yet, but I need a structured base for learning even if I do veer off a little.

Try this link ( http://statelibrary.ncdcr.gov/ld/education/selfpaced.htm ) for the State Library of NC in Raleigh. It says they have limited subscriptions. You may be able to snag one.

There’s some good series on YouTube. For instance, there’s a great series by Professor Messer for the latest CompTIA Net+ (N10-006).

Knowledge is very nice.

Pluralsight is a little expensive but the content is very good.

udemy.com also has some good training, once you pay you have access to the course forever.

We think you are very nice too, thanks Aaron!

+1 for Pluralsight!

I just started using it not that long ago and I really like it so far! The courses are easy to understand and well structured and there are lots of features! A few I haven’t gotten to try since I am using the lowest subscription offered, but they have a lot of things ranging from the most basic IT things to what came out yesterday! It’s really cool and you should check it out if you are interested

Hi Eric,

If you would like to try a free 7-day trial let me know. I’d be happy to help you! A cool feature we have to help different levels of learning is our support team, who will help individuals customize their learning platform to their needs, as well as our mentors who are available 24/7 to answer questions while you do the training. Let me know if you have any questions!

Happy Training!

If you’re looking for HTML5 and CSS and other development courses, UDemy is a good resource. They regularly offer heavily discounted course packages (ie - $15 for a whole HTML5 course set) that never expires. I bought a HTML5 course that I’m working through in my free time.

Regarding more specialized IT technologies, here’s my reviews of 3 popular ones:

Lynda.com:
Only the most generalized IT training.
Widest variety of non-IT application training (Adobe Suite, web design, Office, music, writing, etc…).
A few hours on some MS technologies (like SharePoint)

PluralSight:
The most comprehensive IT videos.
Wide variety of topics.
They focus on the content.

CBTNuggest:
Similar selection of topics to PluralSight
Videos are slightly less informative than Pluralsight
They focus on the presentation

If you’re able to stay focused, PluralSight has the most informative stuff. If you get distracted easily, go CBT - They try harder to keep your attention. If this for is more hobby-type learning, Lynda has the most interesting stuff. I took a course on novel writing and had a blast!

Treehouse is also a great tool for guided training with step by step videos. This helped me learn about HTML and CSS and I was starting with no prior knowledge. I can do simple changes to my email marketing newsletter or to my website.

Pretty cheap for the individual, I am not sure about their corporate rates, it they have any. This is great for visual learners that still require structure with their training.
