We’re back with the final beta for Network Monitor 1.2. We’ve got a couple of new additions, and lots of polish and fixes.

Highlights:

  • The team has been focusing on refining the individual resource settings. We’ve been hard at work cleaning up the threshold editors, making it easier for you to select threshold values that are right for your environment. There’s added guidance around disk speeds (rotational/raid/ssd), and you can now select switch ports by their link speed (100mb/1gb/10gb). Tells us what you think about the changes

  • Upgrades! You can now upgrade from 1.1 to this beta, as well as future releases. All of your devices will now migrate, as will your existing alert and email settings. We’re still not supporting upgrades from previous betas, but try it if you want

  • You change your passwords every 60 days right? RIGHT?? If you forget to tell Network Monitor about the changes, we’re not able to talk to your servers anymore. Same thing goes for firewall changes. We’ve added an alert that tells you when there’s a configuration error that is blocking us from monitoring a device, but we know that’s still up and running.

This will be the last beta release, so we need your help in hammering out the bugs. Got a switch that’s not reporting all of its ports? Does one of the charts crash on Firefox? Post to the group and we’ll get on it. Thanks for your continued testing!

Downloaded and installed, I am unable to add any devices either by hostname or IP. I can ping/tracert, wmic and get the serial numbers with the credentials i am providing, the network monitor said “i know its friday so here is my middle finger hahahahahahhaaha”.

When I installed the new version I uninstalled the previous version I was running.

I am not trying the uninstall again and will delete the local folder, I will update you with how that goes.

Edit 5/1/15 10:03 CST

Uninstall/reinstall did not work.

The network monitor is on port 9559 (same as all my other installs). Still throws an error. Both with SNMP and windows servers.

So, just download and run the installer? It will upgrade automagically?

We haven’t done any testing of upgrading from the 1.2 betas, but plenty from 1.1.

Downloading now!

I guess I’ll be your first tester of upgrading from 1.2.x… I’ll give it a shot now. What could go wrong?

It doesn’t look like you can upgrade from 1.2 as the installer asks if you want to Repair or Uninstall.

Mine seemed to upgrade. I did not get that message, it just seemed to install right over top. No questions about upgrading or anything. It all seems to be working… Kept my settings etc. I show version 1.2.122 in Programs and Features.

Out of curiosity, where do I see the version number in the program itself?

However, I don’t seem to be able to add another device. “Username/password rejected” error. Used the stored credentials and reentered them manually. Used both IP and hostname. Nada.

The default monitor page gets an error loading the page.

It upgraded this time.

All servers and networking gear migrated correctly.

Brian, are you able to add a new device?

Yes (a Windows Server)

Strange. Not sure why I get the authentication error. Thanks for confirming.

I have that problem and I can not add servers/switches on the device list.

Recklessly updated 1.2.00096 without issues

I wish the installer would check if anything is running on port 8080 already though …

Techcoord, was that a clean install or an upgrade? Shoot me a PM with your logs when your have time. Rusty, I’ll see if there’s a regression in the installer (it used to check).

I had the same issue with adding devices but a restart of the server took care of it. It still looks like it “hangs” but it does add the device if I click cancel.

The error loading the page still exists even after the reboot.

I seem to be having the same problem as techcoord. It happened after trying to do an upgrade-in-place.

After that I uninstalled, deleted the Program Files Folder, and rebooted. After the reboot I installed the new beta. It seemed to go without a hitch. I can see the dashboard but I can’t add any devices. The error message just says: “There was an error adding this device” with a link to the help site. Not a very helpful error message.
