Hi everyone–

I’ve been tasked to implement an MDM and/or mobile container solution for one of our clients (around 100 staff members but growing rapidly). The organization primarily will be using e-mail on BYOD mobile devices (right now they are using the built-in e-mail clients on their iOS and Android phones connecting directly to Exchange ActiveSync). Attachments will occasionally come across with sensitive information, hence the notion to containerize the e-mail applications into an encrypted container on the phones (they would also need to be able to view, although not necessarily edit, those attachments directly on their devices).

MDM seems pretty straight forward to me as far as device-control, but I’ve not come across a solution (yet) that provides a good end-user experience for the containers (i.e. the staff members are used to using the built-in e-mail applications on their phones and I’m trying to find a reliable container-based e-mail application that will provide something as close as possible to that). Of the couple I’ve evaluated so far, the e-mail apps themselves have had issues; it also seems like the reviews I’ve been reading thus far are fairly poor, but I’m not sure if I’m evaluating all of the right products.

Can anyone chime in on their experiences with these solutions? (i.e. vendors they like that have worked out for them?) Or are there better approaches these days that achieve better security than containers/sandboxes? Is MDM alone a better solution perhaps?

I use Microsoft Intune. Love it. You can let them continue to to use the default apple Clients in most cases.

Apple supports having a managed email account on the phone and supports wiping just company data. Android does in most cases support managed email but can very depending on phone / carrier since they load their own OS in them. In that case just push Outlook to your Android users.

You can push company apps such as outlook and lock the specific app via a PIN but I find as long as I can enforce a device pin I’m satisfied.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Hi Adam! Welcome to the Spiceworks community! There are MDMs that offer free trials, so you can determine what will work best for you and your environment. We do partner with SOTI and their MDM solution, MobiControl , could be a great fit for you. On top of having an MDM, if you have a solid VPN in place that keeps your mobile users connected and secure, that’s even better. I’m attaching a datasheet that goes over MobiControl’s and Mobility’s (NetMotion’s VPN solution) capabilities and how they work paired together. Hope the info is useful for you!
