Morning,

One of my users has logged into their laptop this morning and all their files are missing.

The laptop does have Deslock encryption and is running Windows (15063) - I am current setting up a WSUS server to fix the updates.

Any ideas though on getting file back?

Thanks

See if a temporary or second profile was created. Look under C:\Users
You can confirm what profile the user is in currently by opening a command prompt and typing echo %userprofile%

An example of a temp profile would be C:\Users\Temp

An example of a second profile(if on a domain) would be C:\Users*username.domainname*

Win 10 had an issue with a specific KB that was deleting user files. You may want to verify if that is part of the cause too. I have seen users also often move their files by mistake to other drives or locations, if you haven’t searched elsewhere it could be worth doing that too. It won’t help you recover them if they’re not there but may be a good 2nd option.

Yh, Spoke to Deslock, they have checked the system.

Just running recovery software now so hoping for the best!

Yea, 15063 is quite out of date.

Follow my guide for setting up WSUS

It will help you get your systems up to date fairly quick, and also allow you to EASILY stay up to date.

check if you have previous versions turned on, and look there. (Right click on a folder and click restore) if it’s turned on that’s a good place to start.
