So I didn’t have automated backups setup on one of my SW installs and now I have a new PC to move the data to. I installed the latest version of SW and tried copying over the data and db folders, but then it will get stuck Starting Up (no huge surprise).

Any way to migrate this install since I still have access to the old HD?

1 Spice up

Do you still have access to the OS itself or just the HDD?

Just the HD. It was on an AMD based system so would no longer boot when I resurrected the system with a new i7 6700K.

Okay that makes things difficult I’d say - I’ve only ever moved Spiceworks from a backup.

Is there any way you can boot the HDD in another computer temporarily? Then you could force a backup and import into the new install.

Other than this I’m unsure personally.

What is the new OS? Note Windows 10 is not supported as the host.

If the box already has other applications, this is also not supported.

If you moved from an old 7.4 or lower DB and installed a clean 7.5 on the new system, the DBs are incompatible, upgrade the old one first before moving.

It is Windows 7 Professional, but I am sure it is <=7.4 DB so that is my issue. Can I perform an upgrade on the data from the folders alone?

You need to upgrade the server it was originally on, OR install the same version on the new server, move the data over then upgrade it
