Another option is to use mailstore.com they offer a backup tool for archiving putposes. This is a great tool and let’s you restore to another local. Plus, it’s search features are the best I have ever seen.

I’m not sure why everyone’s telling you to use a third party tool, as long as your exchange account hasn’t been decommissioned you can do this in Outlook.

In my version (2010) the steps are as follows:

File > Open > Import > ‘Export to a file’ > ‘Outlook Data File (.pst)’ > Scroll up and select your mailbox (your.name@domain.com) > Define export path and duplicate option and press ‘Finish’. Put a password in if you want or leave it blank and after you’ve pressed OK it will export your mailbox to a pst file.

If all he has is an OST file, a 3rd party tool must be used because Outlook will NOT open the OST file directly for reading, even though it is an outlook cache file.
