I just installed spiceworks desktop on our new server setup and it does not find any devices in the scan. We used to have spiceworks installed and it worked great and then we redid all of our servers. After reinstalling spiceworks we don’t get any devices in the scan. I have even tried disabling the firewall on the server in question and still no devices show up.

Did you add the ip subnets back in?

Hi,

Do you have valid AD credentials entered in to the app?

Are you running any IDS or IPs software on your network?

@Rod-IT No we are not running any such software.

@Jamie D Yes we have credentials in. However it doesn’t even show any devices including printers.

@colbyteneyck2 The ip subnet it chose by default was the correct one.

Does Spiceworks not see the devices at all or does it seem them but fail to inventory?

@Rod-IT Spiceworks does not find any devices.

Then either pings are blocked or a firewall/IDS type system is blocking the scan.

Spiceworks finds devices based on a reply from a ping, it will then query the device for type

I can manually ping each device just fine. I have also disabled the firewall entirely to make sure that was not the issue.

Confirm you can ping the devices from the Spiceworks server, to rule out routing issues.

Is there any hardware firewalls between SW and the clients you are scanning?

I can ping from the spiceworks server. The devices are on the same local network with no hardware firewall in between.

Clear the subnet out of Spiceworks and add a single IP or DNS name and see how that acts

So adding a single ip does cause it to find the device. Is there a reason when scanning a range it doesn’t work?

So not sure what it happened but I added a single device and it found that so I went into settings to add a small subnet to try that and after adding it checking each subnet and scanning again it found all the devices. Thanks for your help.

I’m not sure why, or what adding a single machine does, but for some reason and unknown how I found this, but adding 1 device and getting a success, will then move on and scan the rest.
