I am new to my current company, and I am trying to get a hold on our inventory, hardware & software. I took the Spiceworks classes, which were great, but now I am running into some problems.

I am testing the inventory system in only two of our sites, and I am getting the following error, No open ports for this device were found to be responding.

We are running, XP, Vista & Win7. Multiple types of PC’s, Dell, HP, Lenovo.

It is only reconizing 20 out of 60 at my site (33%) and 65 out of 135 at the other main site (50%)

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I am finding a lot of these machines are not on the domain, which I am painfully trying to remedy. Would this cause the issue?

I could really use some advice, or point me to a thread on how to do this.

Thanks in advance.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Well, the open ports is part of the issue. You’d need to check in the firewall settings on the devices and make sure SW is allowed in. See this for some guidance.

In addition to the firewall, it could also be Antivirus, and double check that you can ping the machines. If they’re turned off they’ll can also report back that message.

Then as for not all devices getting scanned, you mentioned, not all devices are on the domain. You’ll need to make sure that each device has a local admin account that you provide SW to scan with.
