I have a situation that is confusing the heck out of me. My firm uses Office 2016 Pro Plus we have an on prem exchange server. Currently we do not have anyone using O365. One of my users is experiencing an issue where the stylus on his Lenovo Yoga doesn’t accurately point to where he is putting the stylus but only when using Office products, specifically Word. After trying to calibrate the stylus within Windows I’ve decided that maybe the problem lies with the Office installation. While searching his computer I noticed that Programs and Features lists Office365 and not Office 2016 Pro Plus but, when I open Word and go to Account settings I see Microsoft Office 2016 Pro Plus listed. Also I notice that even though Account settings lists Office 2016 Pro Plus I can see options that are only available to O365 such as Office Updates, Office Insider, and the build version is 1126.20196 Click To Run. When I ran an Online Repair on Office 365 from Programs and Features Outlook opens up and says “opening Outlook365”, but only the first time I open it. After that, it just says “Outlook” and the Account settings continue to say Office 2016 Pro Plus.

My gut says to completely uninstall his Office installation and use our copy of Office 2016 Pro Plus to reinstall. My two questions are… 1. What would cause this kind of mix up between the two versions? and 2. Will the user loose any Outlook data or configurations if I do uninstall and reinstall Office? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Most computers I setup have a trial version of Office 365 pre-installed, along with other bloat ware. Typically I wipe the system and install windows fresh so I know what applications are installed.

Removing Office and re-installing should not affect their mail as it should be managed by the exchange server, what they may lose is any signatures or archived messages to PST file they have created as these are saved with the windows profile and not on the exchange server. If you are concerned about losing anything backup the folders

See that often if the Office that shipped with the computer isn’t completely removed before installing the version you want.

{"@type":"Person
da-schmoo
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/da-schmoo"}},{"@type":"Answer

Sounds like Windows 10? Windows 10 ships with a trial version of the Office 365 applications. What you’ll want to do is completely remove Office products and then do a clean install of your licensed version.

{"@type":"Person
dimforest
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/dimforest"}},{"@type":"Answer

I was told that you can just apply a license key to the trial version to activate but I’ve always uninstalled the trial.

{"@type":"Person
user4051
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/user4051"}},{"@type":"Answer

Normally, when setting up a new Windows 10 computer one of the first things I do is uninstall the Office 365 trial. I didn’t set this computer up so I can’t confirm whether or not that was done. I’ll go ahead do the uninstall and reinstall. I hope that fixes my original problem of his stylus not working correctly with Office products. I hate it when trying to resolve one issue uncovers another issue.

{"@type":"Person
derrickutsey2
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/derrickutsey2"}},{"@type":"Answer

Just as an update. The end user finally got around to letting me reinstall his copy of Office. The uninstall went well but after rebooting the computer I was not able to successfully install either version of Office 2016. I went into the rgistry and removed the OEM entries but still no luck. As a result my director decided that the this use needs a new laptop. We upgraded him to a Surface Pro.

{"@type":"Person
derrickutsey2
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/derrickutsey2"}},{"@type":"Answer
