Looks like I’m going to need to pick up a second job after my full time day job in IT Security doing mostly vendor risk analysis. I’m at a loss of even where to begin my search, I’ve tried indeed with part-time but not finding much and more often then not my search terms end up with financial risk or security guard work.

Where would people here look? Since I’ve got a Master’s I’m going to investigate teaching online courses.

I do have an absolute that I won’t work Wednesday or Friday evenings nor Saturdays, since that is my limited time with my kids thanks to “tender years”.

Specifically IT - simple residential work would fit in with this. I can’t think of much else that would allow the flexibility.

There’s also stuff local local shop or bar work which may fit in.

Have any friend in local colleges? You could have them forward you career alerts. In my experience companies will look there for part timers tying to get into the field.

Find local MSPs. They are always looking for part time folks

Pizza delivery, bartender, Uber, Lyft, Apple store, Microsoft store, best buy and so on. Also check flexjobs.com they offer a lot of part time jobs from home, usually teaching ones.

Look into Tutor.com. I have a buddy who does English tutoring on there and he says they have expanded some of their IT/Computer programs, and a degree is required. Makes decent money once you’re past the initial probation period. I think you could pull $20+ easy with a masters.

Would it allow you to go into Independent Consulting? That’s what I would do or at least do side contract work if possible.

If you need the extra cash, do something “mind numbing.” Helps with the stress levels, and you won’t get burnout.

Thanks all. I’m going the tutor.com and look into some local stores like Best Buy. The Uber/Lfyt I have to wait on since they don’t allow 2 door sports cars.

They don’t? If I needed an Uber, I’d request one! I’d much rather ride in a RX-7 than a stupid Prius.

Yep, just double checked and both require 4 door cars. So they don’t want my 2010 SS Camaro.

IMHO a second job is not usually a good thing. Moonlighting was always something I frowned upon - I did not like to see folks coming in tired and not able to perform.

If you are doing what you say, then ask the boss for a raise, or maybe some overtime. Is there something at your company you could in your own time and get paid extra for it?

If your wages are not enough to live on - then you have two choices: find a better job or learn to live with less.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Normally I’d agree with you about reducing expenses or finding a better paying job. Unfortunately this mess is due to divorce and massive alimony/child support thanks to the outdated concept of “tender years”, though don’t take it wrong the child support I have no problems with. So anything I get from my 40 hour job, causes those to be recalculated. Income after a 40 hour job doesn’t count and supporting two households is a nightmare.

Back in the day, I used to LOVE driving an RX-7, but as the knees are creaking more and more, I would hate to look goofy and stupid trying to lift myself up from that street-height position. Priuses have a function and a purpose, although I would NOT rule out a Tesla Model S as a lovable Uber ride…
