Trying to do a push install of the Unitrends Agent to a Hyper-V host. Have the same problem with almost all of my windows server so used the windows_agents share and just run the agent. For the Hyper-V host however, can I use the Windows64 agent also?

Vince - Thanks for using Unitrends! I’m sorry you’re having these issues. Can you tell me a bit more about your installation? Are you using a physical appliance or UEB? Do you know what software version you’re on?

Hi Katie

I am using the RA813. I just got it so it is the latest version of the software. Version 8.0.0.1-2013111801

Vince

I had the same issue pushing the agent via the Unitrends interface. It seemed to be an issue with the UAC from what I’ve read. I finally just installed the agent to all my machines via PDQDeploy.

Vince - Thanks for confirming these details for me. Are you following the guidelines outlined in this section of the admin guide?

Problem is that I can’t setup the integration since I can’t push the agent

Katie

For a Hyper-V host running Server 2012, can I use the same Windows64 agent?

Vince

Vince - Yes, you can use the same Windows 64-bit agent to protect your Hyper-V host/clients, but you should be able to push the agents out to all of your Windows and Hyper-V clients. As Gabe mentioned, it could be an issue with your UAC or with your firewall. Would you like for me to have an engineer contact you about this?

The last time I tried to push the agent out to 2012R2, it told me I had to manually install the agent. I could have sworn I “pushed” them out to 2012R2 hosts and guests before. Maybe something new to the latest release?

Da-Schmoo - Did you update both your Unitrends OS & the agent you were trying to push before you attempted the push?

The Unitrends OS was updated. What I was pushing to was a new Hyper-V host. The error message specifically said I couldn’t push to the target OS - either the message, or it might have provided a support link, specifically said the 2012R2 agent had to be manually installed. This was 2-3 days ago.

I usually have to do the following to manually add a client

Install client manually on workstation

Go to Unitrends/Backup/Add Client

Uncheck the Establish trust box

Enter Computer name/IP address and hit Setup

Then go back to Backup and re-check the Establish trust box after reloading the system at the prompt.

Folks - Sorry for the delay on my response - I was checking with a few engineers on this. Apparently, this is a limitation from Microsoft, instituted to close a security loophole. We do not know when they will correct this, but for now, you will have to manually push all Windows 8.1 & 2012 R2 agents. More information is available on page 521 of our Admin Guide . Please let me know what questions you may have about this.
