Hi everyone,

We have an update to the beta available for you, with new functionality to the features released 2 weeks ago and some bonus UI tweaks and bug fixes.

New improvements:

  • Add specific devices to your maintenance windows, and manage them on the Settings page

  • Render charts with pre-filled data from the historical data store - no more blank charts on reload (except uptime device latency and port specific charts for switches, Sean is still working on those)

  • Want to watch over 40 uptime devices on your dashboard? Don’t care about uptime and want to go back to having 3 “watch like a hawk” devices? You can now expand/shrink or remove completely the uptime watchlist.

  • Smarter SNMP device addition. The short story is that you should now be able to add switches with a large number of ports that you couldn’t before, though it might take some time. Let me know if you want the long story.

Coming in future beta updates:

  • Ability to schedule maintenance windows and have them turn themselves on and off.

  • Charts and graphs for historical data!

  • more bug fixes

If you want a good amount of data to look at when the historical data charts land, install now. Even though you can’t see it, the Network Monitor is storing data behind the scenes.

So download the beta, install it, try it out and let us know what you think. As always, please ensure you’re doing a fresh install of the beta on a test system that isn’t your production system as we can’t guarantee you won’t run into bugs that might affect the stability of your Network Monitor, especially as we give you early access to features.

Great news on the up-time watch-list…that’ll please a lot of people.

Keeps getting better and better. The uptime list adjustability is a nice change. Looking forward to the historical data.

Thanks for this new update.

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say you get nothing? The upgrade process should be error free.

Getting a lot of AWWW Snap screens. Chrome is totally unusable to view the status page. IE is only browser which works “most of the time”.

when chrome shows me something its forever loading:

a lot of errors show up in console log, for example:

http://:8086/query?db=netmon_historical&q=SELECT%20%22time%22…E%20host%20%3D%20%27… Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

PS. this was a clean install.

Doesn’t install for me. Trying to upgrade from 1.4.00264 and setup fails. Log file shows:

After a fresh reinstall the dashboard works fine and lets me add devices but when I go into Devices I just get an empty page. After about 30 secs the blank area will add a message saying “Can’t connect to event service. Make sure your firewall allows traffic on ports 5558 and 5556.Check out our help docs for additional resolutions.”. Both of these ports are already open.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll tag Sean onto this conversation as it looks like it’s an issue with the historical data component.

Michael and Alex, can you check the status of the following services:

  • Spiceworks Event Processor

  • Spiceworks Event Store

  • Spiceworks Wsproxy

Are any of these not running?

Also what OS and how much RAM are you guys running?

All services are up and running. OS win 2k8 r2 with 8gb memory.

Would you mind sending me your logs? Let me know if you need me to send you instructions on how to get them to me again.

Please do. PM me the details again.

I’ve installed (upgraded), I can log in but my browser crashes after repeated ‘The service is down’ errors (over 150 for some devices) for most of my servers. I’ve reverted to the newest stable version for now

Hey Conor,

Do you still happen to have your logs from the upgrade you attempted, so I can try to get a look at them?

Afraid not, sorry. I panicked and re-installed the old version…

So when you say IE works “most of the time”, do you get charts and data?

Yess. Like Chrome and Firefox but a lot quiker. Same issues though. Ie only loads faster.

I don’t think I’m following. The screenshot you originally posted shows no data coming in - are you saying that the data does eventually load, but just takes a while?

Chrome loads eventually, Takes about 10 minutes. IE loads a lot quicker. But I get a lot awww snap screens before it even loads.
In the console log of Chrome ie and Firefox a constant stream of earlier mentoined errors.

Understood. Did it do this right from the start of the install, or is it something that’s slowly gotten worse the longer it runs? Does restarting the app change any of the behavior?
