Hi,
We have workgroup windows 7 PC but forgot the administrator login. We can login using normal user account but cannot change any settings.
So how do i reset local admin password?

I’m not trying to be mean when I say this, but this is a question easily answered by google. If you are doing IT support, knowing how to google things is really essential as you can’t be expected to keep everything in your brain. You just have to know how to find it again when you need it.
That being said, here is a step by step:

If user account is configured within the domain, you can try Lepide local user management tool (free) to reset local admin (user) password within few clicks.

Hey,
Just use PStools. PsTools - Sysinternals | Microsoft Learn . There is a password reset tool which works very well.
That works if you already have administrator credentials on the target machine, but he does not in this case.
and this is why you should create a password reset disk…
I have yet to meet the person that both created a password reset disk, and knows where it is 2-3 years later when they need it. In the time it takes them to dig through a drawer to find it I can reset it another way.
thanks guys this pc is in workgroup and also in remote branch office. i just thought of Powershell script can save ?
To change an administrator password, you would need to execute the powershell script with administrator level credentials. If you had administrator level credentials, you could log in and change it via control panel.
so therefore hirens boot cd, takes 30 seconds to crack. but you are going to need to be onsite to do it, not remotely.
otherwise how do you imagine being able to login with a normal user, and run admin tools without credentials?
