I can do a backup of Spiceworks but I recently tried a restore of it because I moved SpiceWorks to another machine. I do not see a restore option. Is there one in the works so I can do a clean install, click Restore and point to my restore directory?

1 Spice up

From what I know, there is no “button” to restore a DB so try this

go to the backup directory (usually C:/Program Files/Spiceworks/backup)
locate the newest zip file (eg spiceworks-backup-[Vx.x.xxxxxx-[Newest-DA-TE].zip)
extract it, then copy the files to the SW app folder (usually C:\Program Files\Spiceworks) replacing everything

Yep. SkyTech is right. Here is a help file on the topic:

Tabrez,

We are getting closer to going production on our system. I created a brand new Windows 2003 Server in a virtual machine and then followed the instructions above and it did not work. Can someone from support help me out?

old system is windows xp pro running SW fine. I did a new backup, then moved that backup to the new server and it doesn’t work.

any help is appreciated. thanks!

I have not found a fix but have found a workaround. After installing spiceworks you have to copy the entire C:\Program Files\Spiceworks directory from the old server to the new and it will then work fine. So far so good.

Here is a how-to detailing how to move your installation (backing up and then restoring): http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/295

Jonathan,

Those are the same steps as in the link at the top. They do NOT work.

Hi Jonathan,

I followed the step in the guide, but I still got the error message: when click the restore.exe.

Error message:

A backup of spiceworks was not found, spiceworks is unable to restore. Please contact support at the support@spiceworks.com for assistance.

Thank you guys.

you can restore all of them without any error message?
