I ran a test import on a number of devices, to update the Owner, Device Type, Description, Location, Purchase Date and two custom fields… having read extensively about the proper usage and “quirkiness” of the process.

The tests resulted in the devices showing as not having been scanned, which I fully expected from what I’ve read (I did not use the manually managed flag) . I was then able to rescan the machines and the device entry appeared to be fine once again.

THEN I updated a good number of entries. These would now no longer resolve the hostname to DNS, but instead insisted on hanging onto the last known IP address. Manually changing/deleting the IP address had no effect… it would still attempt to rescan the device on the original address. Toggling the device as manually managed and back to monitored also had no effect.

Only deleting the device entry and rescanning the machine would fix it.

I would still like to be able to update the fields of monitored devices, as well as import other devices that will scan successfully. What is the solution?

Hi,

Just to make sure I understand, importing brand new devices worked as expected, but updated existing devices caused them not to resolve anymore?

Good afternoon Jaime,

I have only attempted to update existing devices, and yes they do not resolve anymore. The only “new” devices I’ve used the import tool for are all manually managed, so those are not an issue.

What information did you update on the devices? What did the CSV file look like?

Here is an excerpt from the CSV file used:

Name,Serial Number,Primary Owner Name,Device Type,Description,Location,C Mail Drop,Purchase Date,C Purchase Method
minint-r4mm57h,5CG426FNFS,Jennifer Smith,Laptop,AT/AT COMPATIBLE,B28,B28-069,7/9/2014,Purchase

Lets turn this in to an email ticket. We need to look at your logs to see what exactly happened during the import. I’ll email you shortly.
