Hi

I am just wondering what is the best free software for saving personal passwords. Is there an app that you can get for your phone that would be accessible on any device .

Thanks

There’s tons of “password managers” out there if you google. There may be one you prefer after testing a few. As far as free ones, keypass is probably one of the most popular

Thanks Sigkill, ill check that one out.

It’s really a subjective choice on usability, really. Check for the reliability of the developer. I use Password Safe by Bruce Schneier. Keep the safe in “the cloud” and have an UI on both Windows and Android. Helped me out a couple of times when lost in the desert. And welcome to SpiceWorks

Hi Rui

Thanks Rui, I will check out password safe also. Thanks for the welcome.

This is the one I’ve been using for years. LastPass is also good, but it stores your info on their secure servers. Great if you want to keep access on multiple devices. KeePass can be shared out too, I even wrote a how-to detailing how KeePass and services like Dropbox can be leveraged to create a shred password DB:

1up on keepass. I use it with Dropbox to keep it synced between my work/home systems and on my mobile. Android app is great and there’s an iPhone flavour App too.

That’s cool thanks Little green man thanks for the tutorial on how to use them.

Thanks dfiandrew ill check out all these options .

Lastpass.com has a free version. Lastpass rocks.

Depends, would this be for Work/IT Dept use or just from a personal PoV?

Some are better depending on the application.

KeePass2 or better.

KeePass is my choice and MiniKeePass for the iPhone. The developer for KeePass made an iPhone version but it was really awful compared to MiniKeePass. Can’t recall just why (it’s been a few years) and those problems may have been worked out in later releases.

KeePass if you want to save locally and LastPass for browser stuff. Password safe is another good contender.

I would agree with Lastpass if you are into password managers. However I believe the safest passwords are only the safest if you avoid password managers.

Thank everyone for your input , I appreciate your advice. Ill try out the options you have given me . Its for personal use not for work bitlocker. Good point Tuka.d gets difficult to remember them all though.

Hi John,

Are there any particular uses you are looking to get out of a password manager other than handling passwords on multiple devices?

Keeper is the world’s most downloaded password manager. We have two main differentiators - security and usability. We’ve designed the software to be so simple and secure that you don’t have to think about it.

You mentioned device compatibility - Keeper works on every device (mobile, tablet, desktop), browser (extensions for Chrome, Firefox, IE, Opera, etc…) and operating system (Mac OS, Windows, Linux, etc…).

If you’d like to try it out, please send me a private message and I will give you a discount coupon code for your first year of service.
