I want to move away from password protected word and excel documents…

I have used encrypted file containers such as Truecrypt but its a bit of a hassle mounting the file as a drive typing in the password accessing the file…

Is there a quicker, highly secure method you have adopted which allows for sharing of that data with other who are authorised to view…

Best regards

Tim

I personally use KeePass, it’s free and offers great encryption methods, you can also enable 2FA for login for additional security.

KeePass for the win. That app can be setup as portable, knows a lot already on its own and also has so many plug-ins available that enable it to do anything password related (maybe except auto-type your password on potato chips  ). I have setup my installs to sync the databases with Gdrive and it is a breeze.

+1 for KeePass.

KeyPass, Secret Server, and LastPass - all rock solid products. I’ve had great luck with KeyPass and Secret server over the years, and only recently started using last pass.

Keepass at work and Lastpass for personal. Keepass is great cause I can have a central repository and all the users in my department can connect from the desktop client and Lastpass is great cause I haven’t run across a website that it doesn’t correctly enter the login information for (I had issues with Roboform not working on some sites)

Keepass or Lastpass, depending on the situation. Keepass is good for company applications, but personally I use Lastpass due to it’s mobile options.

Thanks for all the LastPass recommendations, guys!

Tim: It sounds like LastPass would be perfect for your needs, with several advantages:

  • If you have multiple team members, they each would have their own login with their own LastPass Vault, with the appropriate access restrictions in place, so you’re not falling into the trap of everyone using the same privileged access with no accountability or reporting.

  • You can create a folder per team or functional area, then any employees who need access to that folder can be given shared access to it (again, with the appropriate restrictions / permissions).

  • You can designate as many admins and “super admins” (those with recovery capabilities) as needed.

  • All the features you need for day-to-day password management (automatic password fill, automatic form fill, password generator, password sharing, Secure Notes for storing things other than logins like SSH keys, etc).

  • Over a dozen 2FA options to choose from for additional protection of LastPass accounts.

We use Keepass with Pleasant Password Server. Pleasant Password Server allows you to take a single Keepass database and Manage ACLs for different users/departments. It also offers other features such as 2-factor authentication.

I’ve used Thycotic, KeePass and LastPass. I use LastPass with a Yubikey for personal and family stuff (I can easily share passwords with the wife) and liked Secret Server for the enterprise tools.

Right now i use one of the features from Webroot’s Secure Anywhere package . Would like of course to go and nose at Thycotic but my humble old machine does not have enough capacity to run anything bigger then an episode from Mr Robot

Nothing is secure.

Another vote for LastPass!

+1 for KeePass.

Use it for home and work. The mobile app works great too.

One nice feature is that passwords are removed from the clipboard if you [CTRL]+C them from the app. After about 10 seconds the clipboard is cleared so no one can follow behind you and [CTRL]+V your password onto Notepad for example.

You mentioned password protected Word and Excel files. If you are on a Windows domain have you looked into Active Directory Rights Management Service (AD RMS)?

Wasn’t LastPass or OnePassword or someone like that hacked recently?

I always had apprehension towards putting all my passwords in one place and protecting them with a single password. It just sounds like an invitation for disaster.
