Until I recently updated to the new version of SpiceWorks and started utilizing the AD feature, I was always able to scan a non-domain machine as long as I had a local admin user. I can’t do that anymore. Has anyone seen this? Is there a setting I’m missing?

the account that you are scanning the PC with is the local admin not the domain admin?

ive had it a few times when updating spiceworks it would forget that i set a custom user to scan the PC and had to remove the device and add the device back in the scan range.

Yes, I’m using machineName\user and password and the user is a local admin. I’ve never had probolems with it until recently, but evey single non-domain machine I’ve tried to scan in the last few week will fail because it won’t authenticate. I’m stumpped…

It really creates a huge problem for me because I have several machines connected to analyzers and other medical equipment that are not on our domain, but I am responsible for monitoring them…

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you verified the account you are using has access to those machines (logging in locally to that device)? Has the password possibly changed recently? Is the error you are seeing on all the devices “Authentication failed?”

Are you able to manually do a WMI scan against the computer with those credentials? http://community.spiceworks.com/help/Troubleshooting_WMI and http://community.spiceworks.com/help/Inventory_WMI
