Currently I use teamviewer, however my director says that it is not secure enough and uninstalled it company wide on Friday. Can anyone tell me of a very secure way to connect to My desktop at the office? I need my desktop of tools and various programs to troubleshoot. We dumped Citrix and being the only IT Person I am already tired of running into the office for the past 2 days.

Setup Ipsec VPN on your firewall or Windows Serve and open the necessary ports. Configure your client to connect to the VPN and then remote to your computer using RDP. What firewall do you have?

Get a laptop and use a VPN.

Hello Pam
Give Zoho Assist a try. It’s completely secure with encrypted data transfer and the data transmission takes place entirely through SSL. You can check our security policy to know more. Since it’s going to be only a single desktop for remote access, you can use our free plan after 15-day free evaluation. PM me for any queries.

Hey OP,
We take our customer’s security very seriously and protect them with the right technology. All TeamViewer versions use full encryption, based on 2048bit RSA private/public key exchange and 256 Bit AES session encoding. This uses the same security level as https/SSL and is considered completely safe by today’s standards. The key exchange also guarantees that the data transfer is completely encoded from client to client and that any routers or servers in between (including our routers) are unable to read or analyze the data stream. We want you to work in a worry free, secure online environment… that is and will continue to be our number one priority.
I definitely encourage you to shoot me a message if you have any questions!

For your own machine I’d connect through a VPN then RDP in. If you want a more secure remote support solution look at Connectwise Control (formerly Screenconnect) hosted on a local server with a relay setup to the outside.
Was a reason given? TV is as secure as any other remote control app, as far as I know.

My guess is the boss doesn’t like it being externally hosted. I don’t believe teamviewer offers a local option.

Hi Pam,
Definitely throwing in a vote for use of a VPN. If you have others who work remotely, I encourage you to check out with @NetMotion Software can offer in terms of a VPN, especially in the mobile arena . Also, very curious to know more about what your director considered secure and not secure enough.
Hey there Pam,
While you’re correct that TeamViewer does not have a local option, we have recently enhanced our security features that I’ll link here , which could be a point to bring up to your boss. Again, we take our security very seriously and want you to have a safe, secure working environment.
Happy to chat if needed : )
