The latest version of Spiceworks (4.1) is now available. We have been working on fixing a number of issues found in 4.0 as well as adding a number of nice features, we think everyone will want to update to this version of Spiceworks (4.1). A summary of issues fixed as well as enhancements is listed below. Feel free to open discussion on any that you feel need more details. :slight_smile: Enjoy!

** Read a summary of major changes **

Update 1 (8/10/09): A new build of 4.1.39229 is now available. This fixes the bug where end users are being emailed the weekly report and a XSRF security fix.

Update 2 (8/11/09): We’ve released 4.1.39315 with fixes for the ‘=’ characters in HTML emails (Exchange 2003) and software on Solaris computers as well as an XSS security fix.

Update 3 (8/21/09): We’ve released 4.1.39854 which fixes Exchange 2007 HTML template support and improved scanning for Solaris devices.

Update 4 (9/01/09): We’ve released 4.1.40098 which fixes a problem with reply to information being added to a ticket when using Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003 HTML template support. When using HTML Templates and viewing tickets in Outlook 2007 there was a problem with double spacing that has been resolved. A problem with creating manual assets when AD groups existed has been fixed.

Update 5 (9/11/09): We’ve released 4.1.40518 which updates the certificate expiration date on the exe. A performance improvement was included for offline data monitors due to user feedback when using the remote site collector. This update also includes a Rails XSS security fix.

Update 6 (10/12/09): We’ve released 4.1.41934 which fixes a few defects and adds support for the Intel Power Manager plugin. This is a summary of the defects. Computers with Microsoft SBS were incorrectly being classified as workstations instead of servers. The left navigation for Plugins & Widgets under My Community was updated to Extension Center. The IT pros Widget was removed from the default installation due to it not functioning in IE. Monitor alerts for devices offline greater than x minutes was not firing the first time a device went offline… The Spiceworks TV widget was not loading in IE7. Avaya phones are now classified as Voip devices. Exchange server information is not being scanned on non server os’s anymore.

Update 7 (10/14/09): We’ve released 4.1.42130 which fixes some defects around setting and editing the vPro account.

Detailed Release Notes

  1. Editing of Network Map nodes to fix links.
  2. HelpDesk email templates for HTML as well as customizing the look/layout… although there are still issues with certain Exchange 2007 configurations.
  3. A few additional AV packages are now detected.
  4. Help/Guides are included with videos as well as “levels” in top-level Inventory and Helpdesk. More to come on this one in future releases…
  5. Remote Sites are now exposed at the device level. This is useful for folks who are using the Remote Site feature for remote offices for their inventory. See the community for more details.
  6. UserPortal drag-n-drop editing works much better than before.
  7. Popup or Callouts in NetworkMap don’t slide far enough for user to interact with easily
  8. Coming into the The NetworkMap from a Different Tab Such as Inventory Expands the Map
  9. [IE] Usability issue with License Manager widget on IE7/8
  10. UI problems with Editing Licenses from within the License Manager widget
  11. [IE] License indicator image is not fully displayed in IE7/8

Installing now, HTML emails will be great. That was a big complaint from our users that they were very hard to understand.

I love how quickly SW is able to add features. I’d like to see what new features are slated for 4.5 - There seems to be a lot that could be done with the help desk and as much as I think HTML emails will be an added benefit, I think it could really use an overhaul on the interface and usability.

I always like seeing all the people coming in with the new version badges, it means that more and more people are joining in which is good for all of us.

Spiceworks got me into trouble with my wife. I couldn’t wait until Monday morning to load version 4.1.39136, so I remoted into office and loaded it. Matter of fact, that led me to start posting on the Community too. Man of man, I think I need to see a counselor! lol

Glad to see the fixes, but disappointed in not seeing more done with the remote data collector features as they are in a bit of a crippled mode right now due to the way they are setup.

Also would have liked to seen something done about event monitoring and being able to use “id and source” to create monitors and alerts as id’s are shared by way too many sources and some sources I want all events (and don’t know all their id’s are).
