I have finally after a few days figured out how to add devices on the spice works software that we have. and my boss added one awhile ago. and we are noticing that neither of them are actually capturing any packets or even showing us the bandwidth the switch is consuming. if there is anything anyone can do to help out that would be great as we are new to spice works and maybe we are missing something on the configuration side of things.

Did you ad the scanners IP to your SNMP settings, otherwise the switches might be dropping it

I am sorry I am not sure what you mean. but in my cisco sg500-52p switch under the snmp tab I went to communities and add the servers ip address there and allowed read only under the privileges and the default profile.

You answered the question yourself then. That is what i meant.
What product, network monitor? What version and what OS is this installed on? Anything else on the same server?

VMs are supported as is that OS, but 1.5 was pulled due to issues and 1.4 is recommended, there is no way to downgrade so you would have to re-install it, but if you are already adding the IP to the SNMP part I can’t see any other reason this shouldn’t work

okay well I have a problem with that to it will not let me uninstall the version that I have so that I can redo it since it stopped talking to the console

What make and model of switches, can you show me the settings of the switch for SNMP.
What version are you using, v1, v2 or v3?

16
we have cisco sg500-52p switches

That is an SNMP trap, SW doesn’t use traps, there will be another place to configure SNMP access
dheckart
(user388658)
18
those are the only two places on the switch that I can find to configure snmp

19
and if that is the case then why when I am adding the switch to spice works it asks for the community string

It will ask, SNMP is open, doesn’t mean the switch will accept it, and it isn’t.
Take a look here
