Hey Guys,

I wanted to get some insight into the following. I have a remote site setup that sends all scan data back onto the main spiceworks installation. I have started seeing that the software information is not getting populated but when I scan a device directly by inputting the ip in the scan settings and running the scan it does populate it. So I am thinking that for some reason the remote scan is not sending all information back to the central location. Any ideas?

Also what are some of the cons/pros from having a remote site scan and then send changes back to central spiceworks installation, as apposed to just scanning the ip subnet directly from the central location.

Thanks all,

rigo

I find remote site scanning is much more reliable and requires less bandwidth. Over the WAN you can get more timeouts and packet loss leading to reduced discovery acuracy. The time needed to scan also increases remotely. Some features like online/offline status are not reliable over the WAN.

We end up doing a mixture of both due to logistics.
