I am trying to get the spiceworks software inventory tools to a point where I can use it to manage my software, both existing and so I can monitor when people install new programs they shouldn’t be.

My issue is that it keeps listing the same programs over and over again on the same device. for example it will scan a pc say pc1 and I will get an alert (I configured email alerts for software installation) saying office 2007 standard has been installed on the machine. a day later I will get another alert for that same machine saying office 2007 has been installed on this machine again,. the same software it already reported that I know wasn’t re-installed. why does it keep re-alerting me about the same software on that machine. shouldn’t it just send me the alert once, log the software in the SW database. and never mention it again?

I would like to sort this out as I have thousands of alerts regarding software installations for my network (of 130 devices) right now the alerts are almost useless because of this onslaught of repeated alerts for software installs.

don’t quote me on this, but i think it is looking at registry entries, most are not deleted when the software is un installed

MrAdam is correct about some software titles not fully removing themselves from the registry after uninstall, but this also sounds like it may be affected by a bug that was fixed in last week’s release of 5.3.75902.

Could you please try updating to the latest version and see if it resolves the errant alerts?

the problem is not uninstalled software. the problem is it keeps listing existing installed software as newly installed every time it scans a machine. so if a computer has 20 items installed on it I get a notice. then the next day I get another notice for the exact same list of items.

I am on version 5.3.75884. I will download the version you mentioned and see if it corrects the issue

version 5.3.75884 does seem to have done the trick, I am not being flooded with multi page emails at the moment with lists of newly installed software
