Hi Spiceheads,

SSL Certs are out of my area of expertise (I have ours managed by a very capable external vendor).

Spiceworks is generating an alert that our SSL cert is expiring within 30 days.

Our cert (which is at Godaddy) is valid thru August '14.

I know this question has been asked before - but never to my level of understanding. What causes Spiceworks to generate this error? How do I get Spiceworks synchronized with reality?

Thanks in advance!

Did you verify the network date and time on the spiceworks server is accurate ?

Hi Jordan …

I am running Spiceworks on a Win7 workstation - which shows current date and time.

Hmmmmm. By “network date and time” - might you be referring to something else?

If you’re on 7.0.01322 (just released), then the domain will have a rescan option available. You can check your version at the top of the Settings page.

There’s a few ways to get there, but the simplest might be to go to Inventory > Cloud Services, click through to the specific registrar and then click on the domain. The rescan is under the gear icon on the right.

Hi Aaron, I am at 7.0.01308. I don’t see an option to rescan - so easiest(?) thing might be for me to install latest version and rescan then…

Thanks!

Yep, that’s be the correct - sorry that I wasn’t clear. It was added to 7.0.01322, so it isn’t present in 01308.

Thanks Aaron! I am installing the latest one now! Perfect timing! Appreciate your help!

Hi Aaron! OK, installed latest release, waited for all the chopping and sorting of peppers, and I’m happy to report that I did see the “gear” and got to rescan!

Only weird thing is that Spiceworks was now showing SSL cert expiration of 2/14/14. But I manually overrode it to around the actual date.

Was the manual override the right way to go - or would SW normally detect expiration date?

I do appreciate your help, thanks very much!

The manual scan would need to be done when it expires, it’s not an automatic query.

However for the manual override, yes that does sometimes need to be done. WHOIS isn’t a very specific standard so there are many differences in the information that registrars present when queried, so the dates sometimes do get a little jumbled.

Thanks for your help Aaron!

Just knowing the date is off in the future is good news to me. I hate dealing with that cert; it is a real pain.

It’ll be nice to know Spice will remind me prior to expiration. In case Godaddy forgets to remind me

Take care and many thanks!
