SysAdmin Day, for anyone not in the know, is a fabulous holiday designed to celebrate SysAdmins, and all other IT professionals. Spiceworks honors this important holiday, and really, everyone should. (See Peter’s cool post on the origin story of the holiday HERE.)

That said, of course we realize that not every workplace is enlightened about this meaningful holiday. How about yours? Are you getting bacon and cookies from your boss, or will you have to buy your own Cheetos from a vending machine?

  • My workplace provides celebratory snacks on SysAdmin Day
  • My workplace has a vending machine so I can buy my own snacks
  • Full catered lunch with my team
  • I’m taking the day off
  • I’m taking the day off and having celebratory bacon
  • They don’t allow us to eat here
  • Other, tell us below

Also, if you want to get the celebration going early, check out the SysAdmin Alignment Chart from a few years ago. Has your alignment changed?

I don’t think anybody has ever heard of it here. I’m one of those who won’t say anything as it should be for others to recognise us, rather than us prompting them to recognise our hard work. I’ve often said to the powers that IT is a thankless task, and they respond with “no it isn’t” then go on to explain to me in simple words what a thankless task is…to which I respond with “exactly how it is in our dept”. So yeah, looking forward to seeing what, if anything, is said by anybody here, but more looking forward to celebrating on Spiceworks with others in the field

Driving down to Gulf Shores, AL for a wedding this weekend. Beach Time >>>>>> IT Time.

When I became their first sysadmin, management would send around an email announcing SysAdmin’s Day, but after 2 years they lumped it in with Administrative Professional’s day - on that day, they give all the staff a flower pot and take all of us out to lunch (small business, 25 staff max).

Now nobody remembers the day but me.

Cough cough. I feel a cold coming on. It’ll hit it’s peak Friday.

They do not acknowledge it as a holiday and I will not force them, because A. that’s weird & B. kind of misses the point of celebrating IT’s work, if we have to tell them to do so.
So, I will be working a normal day and then having a beer after work to celebrate.

That will be the 6 month anniversary of our 15 year old son’s passing. We finally mustered up the strength to decide to go into his room this week starting Wednesday and start tidying things up. It will be very hard for us. Please keep us in your thoughts.

Treat myself to lunch. Or maybe get carry out and read some old water cooler posts I missed!

Definitely will.

I have Uber Eats scheduled to drop off doughnuts to our locations with IT staff at. I have no idea if anyone here celebrates SysAdmin day here (new job and all), but I’m going to celebrate it and force my co-workers too.

Our office has all the snacks, but I’ll be WFH on Friday so I’m going to have a peaceful day working my normal shift.

Hope you have a happy birthday and SysAdmin day!

I’ll be updating computers.

No one here knows about or recognizes SysAdmin day or IT Professionals day.
I will be stuck working a normal day.
At least there is a vending machine on-site where I can buy some snacks, food, and beverages. (Non-alcoholic of course. :frowning: )

I’m working but will have a celebratory lunch.
