I’ve been working on this one for 3 days so far…

I’ve got 3 networks that I am trying to monitor, 1 local and 2 remote that are connected via VPN Tunnels (Sonicwall to Sonicwall). I can scan everything without problems on the local subnet that my Spiceworks server is on, but the other 2 are giving me problems.

I have checked the WMI and DCOM settings off suggestions from other posts. Windows firewall is disabled by group policy. On the 2 remote networks, the scan finds all the equipment, but no information at all except name. Does anyone have any additional suggestions for getting this to work?

{"@type":"Person
{"@type":"Answer

Finally got this issue resolved. It actually ended up being a DNS problem. I did not realize that after Spiceworks finds the machine by IP, it uses the hostname to poll for all of the additional information. After checking, I found out that the box that SW was running on could not resolve the names properly for the remote networks. I added in the additional DNS servers for the remote networks and everything began working properly.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

What is your scan speed?

Have you checked the C:\\Program Files\\Spiceworks\\log\\finder_child.log for any odd entries?

You can ping devices across the VPN? This should probably be so, since SW is at least detecting devices on the other side.

{"@type":"Person
talon63
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/talon63"}},{"@type":"Answer

I do not see any odd entries in the log file. I do see where it finds all of the devices, but no other details on them.

I can ping each device through the VPN with no problem, I can RDP to them… basically have full control of them.

{"@type":"Person
brian9849
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/brian9849"}},{"@type":"Answer

Have you run this command against one of the devices across the tunnel?

OK, so we now know that you can run the WMI query over the VPN connection and get an answer - so Spiceworks should be able to scan the devices and get more information. What is your scan speed set to in Settings > Network Scan?

{"@type":"Person
talon63
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/talon63"}},{"@type":"Answer

try bumping it down to slow. Also, break up the ranges across the VPN to something like 25-30 addresses. See if that gets us the proper information. If this doesn’t work, I may want to take a look at your logs, or refer you to Spiceworks Support.

{"@type":"Person
talon63
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/talon63"}},{"@type":"Answer

I’ve changed it to slow, but I still don’t get any additional information, even if I just rescan one address.

The error it gives me says it’s a permission or firewall error (which may just be a generic error). The permissions appear to be correct all the way around, and there is no firewall enabled on the individual boxes.

{"@type":"Person
brian9849
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/brian9849"}},{"@type":"Answer

Not a generic error at all for SW. Try these threads for further assistance:
