Does anyone see any value in a Ubiquiti certification? They are having a 2 day class, and test in my town of employment. The class being taught is the (UBWA) Link to course description is below.

IMHO its worth if you start working with their broadband gear and crazy setups. For enterprise, WiFi, Surveillance and Networking, you need a solid background in those fields regardless, and then these wont pose any issues.

Well that’s the thing I have started to heavily implement their wireless long range infrastructure. Been setting up the devices to act as tagged ports to allow multiple VLANS to pass over them. I have also been creating IPSEC tunnels between the P2P radios.

I’t wont hurt you in the long run to have the cert, and to learn few things in the process.

I would take the course. What do they charge for this, I’d be interested in taking this if offered in our area.

Can’t hurt, since you are using their equipment you will probably benefit from having it. Even if it is just at review time, got this new cert since my last review etc.

I wonder how comprehensive the exam is. I do not know anyone with the certification? Maybe Austin will know, she is the all knowing being of Ubiquiti.

Hey Molan
We are deploying a set of AirFibers at the end of the month, are you happy with yours?

I have 2 pairs deployed. A set of the original Airfiber 24GHZ radios and a set of the Airfiber 5GHZ radios. I am happy with both sets, The first has been up for 2 years now and the second for a year.
The only issue I have had to speak of was with heavy wet snow sticking to the face of a radio with a driving wind. The snow built up to the point that it disrupted the link. I treated both sets with “Never Wet” (sold at home depot) based on recommendations in the Ubiquiti community and haven’t had a single issue with either set since. I would recommend treating them before mounting them it is much easier when they are on the ground!
The Airfiber 24 GHZ pulls 775 Mbps Full Duplex and the Airfiber 5 GHZ pulls 550 Mpbs Full duplex.

It would seem to be a no-brainer to me if you’ve got the time and finances.
It surprising the new things you can learn on things like this, even if you’ve been using a technology for years, plus it looks good on the CV backing up the experience!
