Have any of you guys tried Ubiquiti Unifi switches?

I haven’t been able to find any good reviews from reputable sites about it. I am planing on recommending it to a small business that will be running 14 access points, UAPs, and this switch would be perfect since it can provide passive PoE to the access points.

So I know the power situation is good, but what about its other features? Manageability? Reliability? Any opinions would be great!

what do you expect from that switch? something more than vlans?

No particularly advanced features are needed, other than VLANs, 802.1q trunks and PoE. I am more asking in terms of its reliability etc.

For your requirements, switch is perfect. If the AP’s are also ubiquity, even better, single unify 4.6.x install will get you managing both switches and AP’s.

I’ve used vlans and they work fine - so all the networks get their DHCP pools from firewalls/dhcp servers, and you pass that through vlans. Done!

So yeah, I’ve used them, not for long, but they work as advertized for me.

For basic functionality they are fine and have pretty good price for switch with 10G ports.

Cool. Thanks for the input guys. Yes, I am also planning to get Ubiquiti access points installed. I love the fact that everything can be managed via the single controller.

Just out of curiosity, as I saw it in their products page, do you think that their ToughCable is worth it or is it the gimmick that STP is in most scenarios?

I personally don’t like the O.S. but the switch does the job that it is programmed to do. We have a layer 2 POE switch in production here.
