I did a bulk import and it changed my devices to “Unknown”. I have read other threads and recognize this a known issue. If I go to the device page and rescan and just let it do an initial scan (the gauge says 3) then that’s far enough to “re-link” the records and the data shows back up and all is well. However, I can’t get an automated scan to run! I created a group with criteria Description starts with “manually imported”. If I look in the group I see all of the devices, but when I schedule a scan they never scan! These same devices are a part of another scan I have setup by subnet too (they never get scanned there but the other devices do). I see in the log where (at the schedule time) it says starting group scan (x) but there is never a command issued to start the scan!

Any ideas of a way to “relink” in these records in SW without having to manually scan each one?

Hello,

By design, Spiceworks will not currently scan or monitor manually imported or manually managed devices. In order to scan the devices you’ll need to delete the manually added versions first.

From there you can add the devices’ IP addresses to “Settings> Network Scan > Your Networks” to scan them.

Hope this helps!

These were not manually imported, they were scanned, but afterwards the bulk data load script was run to update various additional fields. Once this was ran it changed the scanned items to “Unknown”. Doing a manual rescan (the scan only has to complete the very first steps to relink not the full scan) of each one fixes the issue (as all the data is still in the database, just not linked correctly). I was hoping to find a way to bulk update them without having to rescan each device manually from the device menu.

Restarting the SpiceWorks service must have helped, I noticed the next day they were gone (after 3 weeks of being there!).
