One of my Closets, this is a split half tenant office.

I can’t remove the BIX Block, the 3 Avaya boxes and Computer will be gone soon.

Wow…I would say grab a coworker (if you have one) and take a weekend and redo the thing…that is scary…

WTF, you have this gorgeously wrapped bundle of cables coming from your wall jack runs and then an absolute cluster f%^k rats nest after that lol. Oh that makes me cringe. That looks like a weekend downtime project to label everything and fix that situation. Honestly though I have seen worse.

I was going to take a picture of my Server Room/ Old IT equipment Storage/Marketing Storage closet, but after I saw this I don’t feel as bad. Thanks Curtis!!!

That is the new runs I had done, most of this will be pulled out soon as the phone system switch over is done, this closet was way worse before this.
I have tenants using the BIX, I may pull it with the owners permission.
I am still cleaning up after being in this company for 3 years.
I had an office with 4 phone systems in it, only one worked but the others were up and running and one connected to a dead computer turned on.
Worse it was in a mop sink closet.
I pulled the Merlin Magix, Executone and left the LEC station.

And isn’t that the sad part…

You gotta love hanging power bricks!

Yep, that’s not even in the top half of messed up telco closets I’ve seen.

Yeah, my ADD, ADHD, OCD, and any other behavioral acronyms that you can think of are all firing right now! I would go nuts!

If this is a nightmare, then my first job’s closet would obliterate your soul. I know it did mine…

The heart sinking terror I felt when I first opened the door left me speechless. I then had to tell my boss that I didn’t know how much downtime there would be to fix it because I couldn’t even get to the equipment to see it anymore.

The end result was three days down time to discover four broken switches, one unused router, and a construction barrel filled to the top with unused cables.

I told my boss that he shouldn’t have fired the last IT guy… he should have turned him over to the authorities for his crimes against humanity.

Edit: While I don’t have an actual image, this is a good example of what I walked into:

Dude, that does sound horrible! I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, and if I ever left a mess like that people should throw rocks at me in the streets!

That is pretty much how our phone circuit looked like before switching over to VoIP. I don’t miss the stress of that mess.

Yep this office is half VoIP (I took some phones from another office put on PoE)
This office should be done end of month.
So VM Server goes away, Avaya goes away and if I can talk the owner into killing the BIX it goes.

I’ve seen some bad ones, but this wins. Where the F do you start with something like that?

I just ripped it all out and started over. It would have taken so much more time to try an figure everything out and make it neat, so starting from scratch made more sense.

We’re going to be replacing some major bits of hardware in our telco rack over the next few months, so i can finally get in there and re-cable the entire thing. The mess of it has been driving me nuts since I started here and even though it’s far tidier than when I started, I’ve been chomping at the bit to rip the entire lot out and start from scratch

I would be curled up in the fetal position in the corner muttering about the horror of it all.

Here’s another goodie.

Wen I started here (3 years and 4 months ago), nothing was labeled, only two offices were semi labeled.

The rest of the offices were either 1, 2, 3 and 6 off BIX Block to Cat5 or you see two jacks BUT they are using one Cat5 and split for Telephony.

I had to go to all the jacks tone them, label them, pull the cables off the jacks and re-punch then to 568B and then go to the patch panel and pull and re-punch to 568B.

I then hired a company to do 600 jacks for $60,000 over a period of 9 months in the offices that totally sucked and would eat up too much of my time.
