We’re wondering if there are new tools that IT pros are using to support their users remotely. There are several different choices and a few favorites for remote management. Which one do you trust?

Where is the option for Splashtop?

Connectwise

We mostly use VNC. However, if there’s something I can do in the background on a command line without disturbing the user, then I’ll either get a remote PowerShell Session opened or use PsExec to get a remote command prompt going.

AnyDesk & LogMeIn have made big inroads amongst ‘my people’.
Neither support all of the same functions as teamviewer (i.e. multiple monitor support) & both have realised they are being used by the scammer/hackers & are therefore worth charging for now…

It’s a while since I’ve done that sort of thing … we used to use the Altiris Deployment Suite for a bunch of stuff, including the remote viewing/control of PCs via the Altiris Client Agent. A while after I (primarily) left desktop support behind, remote suport was done via whatever mechanism MS SCCM provided.

In some contexts, I think an ICBM may be an appropriate option …:rocket: :fireworks: :fire:

We also use AnyDesk in addition to TeamViewer.

I primarily use LogMeIn but used to have really good success with TeamViewer. Over the years though, TeamViewer has become increasingly bad for free users. I feel like it constantly disconnects and requires you to sign in for use way to much. Used to recommend it to everyone but that is certainly no longer the case.

Dameware

Microsoft Quick Assist is GOAT’d.

I also use Connectwise ScreenConnect daily and it’s great for the features.

I have used LogMein, TeamViewer, Splashtop and Dameware in the past and they get the job done.

in my short time in IT ive used teamviewer, Datto, and connectwise…as much as i dislike the companies predatory practices, teamviewer takes the cake for ease of use across devices and just simply working. I have seen splashtop in an enterprise environment and i liked the look and features of it so id blindly give that a shot…

datto and connectwise are easy to connect to users with but my god their interfaces are annoying, they dont format well with mobile devices. Also, Datto has this REALLY annoying “feature” where hitting the back button on your mouse will go back in your browser and not passthrough to the client like others do. they were just overall not as smooth of an experience when i needed to connect to clients an excessive amount of times throughout the day.

Also +1 for RustDesk…if properly setup it seems like another nice simple solution.

We use SCCM, but the enterprise is rolling out a screenshare module in a new product called Tanium. This is used also for patching, deploying software/updates, etc. Hoping this’ll replace SCCM, but that’ll take years probably.

We use Quick Assist in our organization. Built into Windows, so no need to install/configure other software.

ScreenConnect, TightVNC

ScreenConnect/ConnectWise Control for me. Simple, easy to use, administration is a breeze once you dive in. For a Windows environment, it’s my remote tool of choice.

I prefer using RealVNC but right now I’m using the personal version and I’m only supporting a couple computers.
