I’m looking onto a licensed remote session with best prices to replace logmein. Do y’all know which one is the best to use? I have looked onto teamviewer, showmypc, and joinme. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Teamviewer gets my vote. Just wish it was a bit cheaper.

Apple Remote Desktop + windows remote desktop, Teamviewer, or logmein are the best out there… Each works well and has good speeds depending on your needs

I use TeamViewer personally for family support. At work ,we use Citrix GoToAssist. I like them both. I think GoToAssist was reasonably priced.

EDIT: I am assuming that you mean remote as in outside of your office or network. If within the same network, RDP or VNC. I use both within our network, depending on if the user needs to see the screen or not.

@TeamViewer

TeamViewer is great if you’re just using it for personal use. If you’re using it for commercial use, you will have to purchase a license.

UltraVNC however is completely free for personal/commercial use. You can also use the encryption plugin with UltraVNC, which I recommend doing if you’re implementing this at the workplace.

If you need to reach the user “in the wild” joinme is cheap and works okay. Otherwise I’d look at one the VNC implementations.

+1 for TeamViewer. It has a number of features we find useful, although I can’t speak to whether these are available from the other solutions mentioned:

-Contact list for easy connection without having to go to a chart or other document. (Also, Spiceworks inventory plugin for similar functionality). Built-in IM and video chat if the user doesn’t have those kinds of apps installed already.

-Session recording. When outside vendors connect to our servers for installs, break/fix or other support we often have them connect through TeamViewer so we have a record of their actions.

-VPN – excellent for quickly giving the remote user access to a shared resource.

-File transfers – generally very slow, but sometimes necessary to get an install file past a restrictive email filter or the like.

-Customized client interface. We offer remote support to a user portal for clients using a customized interface with a disclaimer pop up and our logo. Prefills the password field to a default we only know internally so we only need the ID to connect.

-Disabling remote input and video output – can be used to keep users from interfering with extended installs/maintenance processes.

-Easy multi-monitor views.

-Disable shutdown and lock settings with a password – provides for seamless client integration that is all but guaranteed to be available for connection if the system has network/internet access.

-Built in (256-bit?) encryption for regulatory compliance when accessing a remote machine.

Of course these are all useful to us primarily because of the wide variety of environments we have to support here. in a more homogeneous LAN environment I find the speed of VNC advantageous.

I’ve only used the free version of Pertino but have been quite happy with it. If memory serves me correctly, their pricing also seemed reasonable when I inquired.

We use TeamViewer. Great product.

How many PCs? If it’s 10 or less you can use @Remote Utilities for free.

More than 100 PCs.

Then you’ll have to pay

Their software does work well, but I’ve got no idea what pricing is like at qty 100.

That’s why I want to replace logmein with something else at lowest price.

Check out Screen Connect. Single purchase license, you run it.

+1 for Teamviewer here

I use it at home on both Macs and Windows 7/8.1 and we have a few connections that run into some VMs for when people work out of the office. I’ve used Citrix GoToAssist and Logmein but personally, I don’t think they’re quite as stable, particularly with poorer connections. YMMV though

I will chime in with TeamViewer either. Not only does Teamviewer offer remote support and remote management — which means you don’t necessarily have to have the remote side set up before you need to connect — it also sports useful features such as wake-on-LAN to wake up a sleeping computer and put it back to sleep when you’re finished, file transfer capabilities, clipboard passthrough, and support for connecting from mobile devices like phones or tablets.

The only drawback I face is that Teamviewer connects by getting the client to run a program each time you want to establish a connection and then pass on a PIN number or code, which is a process I’d rather avoid having to explain over the phone to my less technical cients.

Seems totally interesting but I’m not interested in setting up a server with firewall rules, static external IP address, and forward ports via a router/modem. A remote session that requires no firewall rules would be great such as teamviewer, showmypc, and etc.

We still use LogMeIn, but we are not happy with them and we certainly don’t trust them.

I love dameware. This product works well if you are on the same network. But as far as remote support we use webex.

Chris, I already have dameware and love it. However, I need a different remote session for those computer machines that are outside the internal network. For example, home office & travels.
