User forgot thier password for thier laptop (windows vista home premium) for the Admin account. Would appreciate any help for this because of course all data is critical. Many thanks in advance!

2 Spice ups

There are several password crackers out there. I believe there are even several posts here in Spiceworks about password crackers.

Feel free to use the search feature to look through all of the posts. Good luck!

Another alternative is to remove the hard drive, connect it to an external enclosure (or if it is SATA, hook it up to a secondary SATA port on your desktop computer) and take ownership of the files - then copy it to another user profile on the machine…

http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net should sort you out.

If you’ve got the appropriate access to MSDN you can get the Diagnostics and Recovery Toolkit (DaRT) which contains ERD, which you can burn to disk, boot the machine to it and use the “Locksmith” utility to reset the password.

The hardest part is getting the toolkit!

I like http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ . i use it to reset lost local admin password for computers not on a domain.

We also do what Rob suggested to recover files.

i went here to check this out and my trend micro AV went bazerk. lol

I want to thank everyone for there help I tried everyones solution but it was a vista laptop and found some of the solutions to be non-sucessfull. Even though apps were helpfull in thousands of other ways. I did find a cracker that was awesome in gui and simplicity and worth the money, works on all platforms (not totally tested yet but described as) and resolves the password in seconds…

Good work! Please mark any helpful posts and best answers as you see fit. Thanks!
