Hi,
I need to reset the administrator password for a standalone windows xp machine. I already tried going in through the safe mode but that didn’t work since someone changed the default administrator password.
I was wondering what are some good password recovery programs which i can use to retrieve the windows xp administrator password.
Thanks

Hiren’s Boot CD is my favourite - Hiren's BootCD 15.2 - All in one Bootable CD » www.hiren.info
This can be used to solve your problem, and a lot more too. So it’s worth keeping hold of.

The Offline NT Password Editor included on Hiren’s will do the trick.
Don’t bother with “recovery” - just blank the password. Once you’re in as the Admin user, you can set the password to whatever you wish.

I have used Windows NT Offline password tool with great success. Its also works great when you have a Windows 7 machine that has local admin disabled.

The Ultimate Boot CD is another source of many tools. It has been in my tool kit for years.

+1 for OPH Crack. Use it all the time for XP, Vista & 7. Works like a charm EVERY TIME. Make sure to BLANK the password instead of changing it.
OPH and Hiren BootCD seems to be the way to go. im going to try out both of them and see which one works with the USB key the best
Get SARDU
Use it to make a bootable usb of Hirens, trinity, and many live boot antivirus options also that you choose your poison from a menu at boot time.

can i add Hiren, trinity and Oph in the same USB Key as a bootable ISO or do i need separate USB for each
thanks
There is a download link on their site:

I found this video very useful when I needed to reset my admin password:
If you use a boot manager you can put them all on the same USB. I’ve used YUMI in the past - it’s pretty easy.
