Will there be a new level to achieve in Spiceworks?

Perhaps with the same black background as capsaicin but with black text to match?

From reading about the guy who made it, and was stoopid enough to try it, black sounds appropriate!

We’re actually looking at adjusting the levels a bit for the new platform. Can’t confirm or deny whether “Pepper X” will be included though.

Personally, I think it would need to slot below pure capsaicin.

Let there be only 1 Pepper X. All other pepper ratings slide accordingly under a bell (i.e. “the pepper”) curve.

So, from my understanding, Pepper X is the hottest “pepper” but Pure Capsaicin isn’t actually a pepper. PC measures at 16 million SHU, while Pepper X measures only around 2.69 million SHU. I think the only thing actually hotter than PC is Resiniferatoxin .
As for our Levels, I think the idea was to “pepper” in a few levels to make the cliffs a bit more gradual. Right now, you hit some of them pretty early on and it can take a while for even highly engaged members to get to that next level. So I don’t believe the thought is to necessarily change the end goal but to add a few more check points in-between (if that makes sense).

At my rate, I won’t hit PC until I’m well in my 70s and long past retirement!
(yes, I’ve done the forecast calculations because that’s what I do)

Just lower the bar for Habanero! haha
I’ve tried Bdubs’ hottest sauce. I can do boneless easy but when it comes to with bone. I’m out.

I was going to ask if Pepper X is bred or made in a lab, but then I realized I could look it up myself. I’m happy to announce that Pepper X was bred by Ed Currie , who also created the Carolina Reaper.
Props to him for putting in the work. I think the GMO route to “improving” food is cheating. We can make anything in a lab. It takes skill to “take the pollen of one plant with a paintbrush and then deliver that pollen to a different plant” like Mr. Currie does.
Wait, does that mean he’s painting happy little peppers?

Yeah, we had a story about it in a recent Snap, where we learned about how bad it was when he actually ate one. Ouch.

I thought that the Scoville scale was simply the linear interpretation of the logarithmic hotness of peppers. Rather than changing the graduations on the Spiceworks pepper scale, would it not make more sense to change the inherent spicyness of each sort of contribution community members make?

Having just barely leveled up to habanero, I look at the numbers I have to earn to get to the next level and get discouraged. It would be great to have a more readily attainable next goal, but that would mean lowering the target for ghost (I think that is the next level up) if this chart were being followed. New levels would be great, especially with names such as Chocolate Habanero, Trinidad Scorpion “Butch-T”, and Komodo Dragon!

More pepper levels in about the same span of spice points is definitely something I’d favor. My contributions are more occasional but still fairly regular and yet I feel like I’ve been at Datil forever (about 2,800 points away from Habenero though). I can hardly imagine how it feels for those that have attained the Mace level on here and have a 150,000 point trek to the summit that is Pure Capsaicin.
On a separate note, whoever named the Infinity Pepper seriously oversold it based on that chart.

Yeah, I “only” have 89K points to go to my next level.

Oh, it’s VERY discouraging. And I’m still about 23K away from Mace despite being active every day. I frequently feel that even getting there is unattainable within a reasonable timeframe before I call it a career.
I don’t think we need to necessarily change the ladder and levels but reevaluate the point earning opportunities. Are writing plugins still even a thing? If earning points are tied to earning BAs, and we’ve historically seen that users actually coming back to award a BA is next to impossible, how does SW revamp that?
If traffic has declined or changed due to reasons X, Y, or Z, and in the past, that activity went hand in hand with point earning, shouldn’t the earning scale be adjusted accordingly with either the lower or changed user traffic patterns?

My only ask is that you don’t gamify SpiceWorks to the point where it starts attracting point whoring trolls. For me, the point of SpiceWorks is a place where I can ask questions (even stupidly obvious ones that have been asked a thousand times) without fear. And its fine to gamify things more, but tying different privileges to certain point levels is a bad idea.

I redid my forecast, which is unfortunately still somewhat inaccurate. But if I somehow earn an average of 20 points per day, I’ll reach Mace on November 16, 2027. Pure Cap will be March 11, 2051, when I’m in my late 70s.
I’m not averaging 20 points/day.

I’m not sure I follow. I’m not suggesting tying privileges to point levels. I’m just suggesting the same system but a different scale. . There’s already a similar scale of achievements in play. I’m simply suggesting a tweek to make the action more visible for those who want to level up faster. And I’m suggesting a bit more reaction for posts that don’t abide civilly.
