Hi I have a XP laptop that was scanned in the past, but now it comes up with the usual wmi port not open or firewall problem. I have the firewall off. I checked connectivity to wmi with the wmic cmd line test. I checked security on wmi and dcom. I ran the script to repair wmi. I don’t know what else to do.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I have noticed this on some others as well, but focusing on one for now. I don’t get why they would work, then just stop. Could a MS patch be the cause?

Help please.

Thanks

Ok So I come in this morning and my daily scan completes and now the system that has been giving me connection issues has scanned fine. I’ve done nothing over the weekend. No updates, no changes, nothing. I don’t get it.

{"@type":"Person
[{"@type":"Answer

Sounds like the patch may have caused it! Any chance you can restore the system to a previous state?

{"@type":"Person
lloydfraser0231
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/lloydfraser0231"}},{"@type":"Answer

Not sure. Will look. Is it possible to still download prior version of spiceworks?

{"@type":"Person
mike84797812
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/mike84797812"}},{"@type":"Answer

I’ve seen my Spiceworks installation occasionaly state that for an XP laptop that has been previously scanned successfully, but is simply not on the network (or off) at the time of the scan. Can you run a manual rescan of the device from the inventory screen, when you know the laptop is connected to the network and powered on?

{"@type":"Person
timjackson4638
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/timjackson4638"}},{"@type":"Answer

I’ve done the manual rescan numerous times knowing that the laptop was connected and on.

{"@type":"Person
mike84797812
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/mike84797812"}},{"@type":"Answer

Does the laptop change between wired IP and wirless IP? That could possibly be a part of the problem or perhaps some other network topology.

If you scan that laptop by IP, have you tried scanning it by name instead?

{"@type":"Person
timjackson4638
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/timjackson4638"}}]}}
