Hi all,

I’d love to hear from you about how you use social networks.

  • What social networks do you use? Aside from SpiceWorks - that’s a given
  • How do you use your social networks (i.e. personal, business)?
  • Do you mind interacting with companies on your social networks?

Thanks so much for all of your feedback! It will really help me as I get my footing in the tech world. I want to be able to talk to you all about the right topics and in the right places.

Have a great day!

4 Spice ups

Facebook - Check up on my kids and blow off people I used to blow off in middle and high school.

Twitter - I only follow bands and sports teams.

I don’t think I would ever socialize with businesses on a social network. It’s a social network, not work for me at least.

Facebook - just friends

Twitter - some professionals that I respect but nothing that is from a company. I receive too much advertising as it is.

I’d rather not interact with business in social networking outside of professional networks, i.e. Spiceworks. I do to a limited extent on LinkedIn, but that is similar to Twitter. In my opinion, a company is better of building relationships, and paying their employees to stay and build those relationships, via social networks rather than trying to broadcast or market through those means.

Facebook - to read 1st world problems

instagram - to see what is everybody eating

Myspace - Friends created it, I deleted it

Twitter - Used weekly for a few months. Friends were sporadic. Finally deleted.

Facebook - Never touched.

Google+ - Only ever used the hangout feature when more than 2 of us are trying to video chat, otherwise Skype.

(I’m definitely not socially normal. If people want my attention they can call, text, or email, especially if it’s work related.)

I use the following:

Facebook- just for my band (I don’t even have a personal Facebook page)

Twitter- I have a personal one & one for my band. My personal one follows some companies, but generally only related to specific interests of mine (like drumming)

LinkedIn- stay in touch with people I used to work with & to build professional relationships.

Instagram- brag about my kids.

I don’t know if I would necessarily follow a company unless there was something in it for me (special discounts, etc.)

Do you follow companies/brands on LinkedIn or just individual people?

Our company is media based, so we use social networks extensively to generate interest in events, put spotlights on specific articles of items of interest and stay in touch with the local ‘scene’.

Personally, I use facebook to make snarky comments and that is about it.
