A Look Back at National Volunteer Month!

Throughout April, the First Nation Group team showed up with Hands In, Hearts Open to give back through meaningful acts of service in honor of National Volunteer Month. This year’s company-wide goal for the month was 900 volunteer hours, and thanks to the compassion and generosity of our team, we surpassed that goal with a total of 1,120 volunteer hours!

From home project clean-ups and community food drives to assembling care kits and sending cards to Veterans, every act of kindness made a difference. Across all four facilities and our remote workforce, our team embraced the opportunity to serve and uplift causes that matter most to them.

Let’s take a look at just a few highlights from this inspiring month of service!

Up north, our Michigan Local Challenge team spent a Saturday volunteering at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, a burial ground for our nation’s heroes in Oakland County, MI. The team dedicated the day to beautifying headstones to help ensure these brave men and women’s legacies live on.

Farther south, our Niceville team fueled humility, happiness, and positivity at Westonwood Ranch, an organization that provides holistic learning for individuals with developmental differences, with an emphasis on job skills training. The team put their creativity to the test by helping participants craft dazzling disguises for their Moonlight Masquerade Prom – glitter, feathers, gems, and all!

“When we reached out to Lindy Wood for a volunteer opportunity this month, we expected our usual beautification project. Instead, we were given the incredible chance to connect directly with the participants at Westonwood Ranch. It was amazing to see their excitement as they created masks for their upcoming masquerade prom. Being able to share that moment with them was truly moving, and they all did such a fantastic job!”

Our Fort Myers crew embraced our mission by volunteering at Hearts & Homes for Veterans, an organization dedicated to helping homeless and low-income Veterans improve their quality of life. Our team rolled up their sleeves to sort through a large inventory of donated clothing and toiletry items.

“Volunteering at Hearts & Homes for Veterans for the first time was incredibly rewarding. We spent a few hours organizing donated clothing, shoes, and toiletries. It was fantastic to see what we could accomplish in such a short time with a little hard work. More importantly, it was great to know that we were helping the organization streamline its efforts to help Veterans in need. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful cause.”

On the west coast, our Denver Local Challenge team volunteered at Food Bank of the Rockies, a hunger-relief organization in the Rocky Mountain region focused on igniting the power of community to nourish people facing hunger. Not even snow and frigid temperatures could stop this team as they packed food bags and distributed them to individuals and families in need throughout the local Denver community.

The impact made this April is a testament to what happens when we are Hands In, Hearts Open. While National Volunteer Month has come to a close, the difference we made together will carry on in the communities we served and the connections we built – #TOGETHERSTRONG™, for the greater good.
