Today might be your last chance to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order folks. Switch 2 pre-orders came and went awfully quick at the tail end of last month. While we did catch a quick re-stock at Walmart that more than a few 9to5Toys readers were able to take advantage of the following weekend, console pre-orders in the U.S. (and basically everywhere else) have been long gone since then. Most major retailers, including Walmart, have now updated their Switch 2 console listings to ready for launch day – this appears to be the next chance we’ll have to score one at retail, but there is still a chance to land a pre-order, is not a big chance, but there is still hope as Nintendo’s invites will go out starting tomorrow.
Last shot for Switch 2 pre-order in the U.S.

As we reported previously, alongside pre-orders at major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Best Buy (Amazon did not have any), the only other way to secure a pre-order for Nintendo Switch 2 is straight from the My Nintendo Store, and this remains true as of right now.

The My Nintendo Store option was largely a secondary one, or at least a back up, for most folks, as there are some requirements that must be met to be eligible and there were early reports that Nintendo’s own allotment of pre-order stock appeared to be limited, or at least to some degree by comparison to other retailers.
It is, however, still scheduled to send invites for pre-orders starting tomorrow to folks who sign up before then and those who also meet the requirements – they aren’t all that wild, but you’ll need to be an avid Switch gamer, to say the least, in order to meet them.
There is, as far as we can tell, no specific indication of priority here – it doesn’t appear as though the first invites are going to go out to those who signed up for the My Nintendo Store pre-orders first, but this remains unclear. In other words, if you’re still looking to secure a unit (or perhaps another one) and you meet the following requirements, it might still be worth going to drop your name in the hat for a chance at one.
The main requirements that must be met to be eligible for a Switch 2 pre-order from Nintendo are as follows:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have opted to share gameplay data with Nintendo on Switch 1
- Must hav e 50 hours of total gameplay logged on Switch as of April 2, 2025
- Must have purchased a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership
Again, it’s not overly wild and likely just an attempt to side-step scalpers, but it is a thing that might have pushed many folks to go straight to retail last month for one. Which might also mean there’s a chance to score an invite at some point…maybe.
The invite system works a lot like it did for Switch 2 in Canada at Amazon – you sign up and pray you get invited. If you do, you’ll get an email and you’ll have 72 hours to choose your bundle and pull the trigger. It’s a long shot, just like it was with Amazon up north, but we did manage to secure one of those.
Good luck and even if you don’t manage to get an invite when they start going out tomorrow, worry not, as it appears most major U.S. retailers are going to have some stock on June 5 for launch day.
- If you register your interest in purchasing a Nintendo Switch 2 system from My Nintendo Store and meet all eligibility criteria, you will be added to the queue of customers interested in purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 system from My Nintendo Store. You will receive an invitation email when it is your turn to shop. You will have 72 hours from when the invitation email is sent to complete your purchase.
- The first wave of invitations will go out May 8.
- If you do not receive an invitation at this time, you will remain in the invitation queue. Additional invitations will be sent periodically via email until all eligible registrants receive an opportunity to purchase.
