I think Samsung has one on sale right now:

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite - It comes with a stylus and is pretty smooth

Personally I would get an ipad but it gets costly with a stylus and the apps.

Its not the tablet that matters but the app that you would use on it. I would recommend procreate.

-Thanks

Abdul

{"@type":"Person
cyberspace-11-11
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/cyberspace-11-11"}},{"@type":"Answer
way back when my daughter was maybe 8, I picked up a cheaper android tablet that still had a resistive touch screen - meant she could use a finger or stylus to draw/color. she used it a bit off and on but usually went back to paper after a little bit. I would actually suggest you look at the Leapfrog LeapPad line of tech toys. Can draw and other things on them. My kids each had one and wore them out, worth every penny imo. I was just looking and the tablets have come a long way from what I got my kids over a decade ago.

{"@type":"Person
stopthenoise
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/stopthenoise"}},{"@type":"Answer
Daughter has an OLD iPad with Procreate loaded and she loves it. Granted, she’s 17 now, but she’s been drawing on iPads since about 1yr after they launched (she was getting my wife’s hand-me-downs)…

Runs it on a 1st generation 12.9" iPad and “pencil”. The thing has dents, scratches, an old leather case from 2017, a battery that takes forever to charge, but dies in maybe 30% of it’s original life… But she won’t let us swap it out. Point is, no reason to go “new” for a young’un that risks breaking it, as long as the apps run.

Mind you, she’s received tech hand-me-downs including digitizers, laptops, etc. She uses all of it.

And yet… I see her in the corner of the couch using her iPad/Pencil/Procreate beast more often than not.

{"@type":"Person
nick42
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/nick42"}},{"@type":"Answer
I have the standard iPad, which works with the first-generation Pencil, and I use Sketches Pro (which goes free from time to time and there’s always the non-paid version that doesn’t let you do layers).

My toddler loves scribbling on it, and it’s pretty intuitive to use. You don’t need the expensive pencil with the little ones… you can pick up a stylus with a rubber tip and it works almost as well until you need to do serious art. That said, the Pencil is pretty good because it’s can detect pressure, which allows you to vary the brush strokes more naturally.

Haven’t used ProCreate, but have heard great things.

I’d also recommend getting a good case if the kid is prone to dropping devices.

{"@type":"Person
Peter-Spiceworks
https://community.spiceworks.com/u/Peter-Spiceworks"}},{"@type":"Answer
You will not surpass the experience of the Apple Pencil on an iPad. These brands offer a range of models suitable for young artists, such as the Wacom Intuos for Kids, Huion Kamvas Junior, XP-Pen StarG640, or even utilizing the drawing features of Adobe Express . Traditional drawing and painting are always best for their motor skills, of course, so I suggest a time limit.

My two year old can navigate all the tools of the canvas in Procreate. He loves to explore different brushes and colors on the canvas.

My oldest (7 years) loves drawing comic strips and spelling words. It is cool to see her art progression. She loves that she can email art work to her family or print out multiple copies to give to friends at school.
