CBT Nuggets is hit and miss at best. Some of their courses are great and well taught, others have boring instructors, consist of little more than talking over slides which just have bullet point versions of what’s being said and worst of all, some are just plain lacking much of the information needed for the exams they are supposed to be training you for.

I took their ITIL Foundations course after I found Cybrary’s lacking and it was great. The instructor was engaging and his slides gave a lot of great analogies to go along with his examples. In addition to the course material, he also gave study and exam prep tips and talked a fair bit about ITIL in general, what the other levels of the certification are and whether or not you might need them. I did well on that exam.

Conversely, I just recently completed the Office 365 courses for exams 70-346 and 70-347. I took the 70-347 exam today and failed it with a score of 477 of the required 700, in no small part because over 1/3 of the questions involved topics that were either not discussed at all in the training or which were covered in only the most basic, cursory manner. All the visuals consisted of were slides just repeating what the instructor was saying and occasionally, watching him slowly type in PowerShell commands or navigate the Office 365 Admin Center in what appeared to be a 640x480 window that he was capturing. I honestly feel ripped off by the $99US (almost $120CDN) I paid for the month of service to go through these two Office 365 courses. They are the only ones I can find for these exams and it’s clear CBT Nuggets just rushed them out so they could be first to market.

I’ve also read in several places that their MCSA Server 2012 course suffers the same problems I listed above. It was suggested by several people that I go to ITPro.tv for that course and I intend to. I have a lot of self-study ahead before I try to retake the Office 365 exams as I can no longer trust what CBT Nuggets taught me.

Beyond this, their video player is poor. Videos often load just the sound and sometimes take multiple refreshes to fix. It also doesn’t save your player speed preference for each nugget so each time, you have to wait for the video to load, choose your speed, waiting for that version to load and hope you actually get visuals. Very frustrating and unnecessary.

Be very careful and research the courses you want to take through CBT Nuggets to see if they’re up to snuff and make use of the one week trial they offer to extensively test it out before putting money down. Some of their courses are good, some are crap. Don’t get burned.

Love CBT Nuggets videos. They provide good insight and training into various different technological areas. Videos are very easy to follow and their library is constantly growing. Quality stuff!

Content and trainers are great, but, there needs to be some interaction. Video lessons are fine, but, let’s get real labs up or at least talk about how we can get set up to actually “do” what your’e explaining for us. I know it’s a change in the model, but it would be great if cbtnuggets could actually validate what we’re doing by allowing us to submit sample labs, etc. Kind of a CBTNuggets meets O’Reilly school system.

I love CBT Nuggets the Cisco training is top notch. If we had teaches in the K-12 level teaching the way they do, the would would be a better place. All video training should be supplemented with text no matter who is doing it, so don’t be fooled into thinking you will learn everything through video learning, though I will say with CBT you will be very close. I just wish they had there own readings or text to supplement with the styles of the videos. I wish I could learn faster to show off my skills.

Best training videos around. The subscription was a bit expensive, but they’ve more than paid for themselves. A few months after I bought my subscription I got a significant raise for “taking the time to learn on my own”, truth is I was just listening to CBT Nuggets in the car on my way to work.

I have been using CBT Nuggets for a few years now and really enjoy the videos. They are very educational and all have some humor built into them. I like that each “nugget” is manageable in length. The hardest part is dedicating yourself to actually watching, but they offer coaches to help keep you on track.

I have been using CBT Nuggets for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. the training is so easy to follow and keeps you interested. Would reccommend this to anyone and plan on using it to help pass more certs :slight_smile:

Tried out CBT Nuggets and it is a great training site. For me however, I learn best buy hands on and books. But the site itself would be perfect for those that can learn via video teachings.

Great Website for training if you learn visually. I learned a lot from the Cisco CCNA course. I was able to use that an a study guide to learn about the basics of networking and pass the CCNA test.

Couldn’t be more satisfied. Greg Shields, Tim Warner, and James Conrad thus far has explained everything very thoroughly, which is very hard to do with limited time in IT. Keep it up. Sorry, no negatives for constructive criticism, but Im sure with all the bright minds behind CBT Nuggets, you guys will still keep improving.

And thank you for making it affordable at $99/month, instead of 1,200/year.
