Is the file marked as read-only?

hello
no it’s not

If you can’t save it to your desktop, it’s protected somehow.

Does your company run any DLP software?

Does it need to be a .doc, perhaps the format is prohibited from being created, if you save it in the original place as a docx, then re-edit it, does that work?

hello
no DLP we will try to save it as docx
i will let you know

well it’s already a docx file my bad

Thanks

What other tools do you have on your network that may prevent saving, if you can’t save it locally or on the original share, something else is stopping this.

I would try saving a new word document to the shared folder and the desktop and see if that works. That test may help you determine if the permission issue is in the file itself of a folder permission.

i modify the file and then save the file as a .doc and it work
not sure why it refuse when i save it as a docx
on my desktop copy

Is the shared folder or your local machine using OD or SPO?

If so this may be a version limit, and saving it as might be the only option.

hello
yes shared folder and the user can create a new file without issues
Thanks

I understood it’s a shared folder, I was asking if this is within SharePoint/Online or OneDrive?

Does the file or the file location use versioning, as this may be a versioning limit, not a permissions issue.

sorry
no it’s not it’s a files server on server 2022
Thanks

If you open Word as admin can you save it as a .docx then?

hello
not even it keep asking the path where to save it

Does anyone else have this file open from the shared drive? That would prevent someone else from saving it.

i will check that
but if i change the name of the file it should work no ?
