Hey SpiceHeads,
As some of you already know, today we are celebrating Labor Day in the USA (and if you’re in Canada, you’re celebrating Labour Day – thanks @robert762 !). For those SpiceHeads who don’t live in the USA or Canada (or for those who did but maybe missed that day of school or slept through class), Labor Day is celebrated the first Monday in September as a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. And as I’m sure all of you can attest to, being an IT pro entails a lot of labor (to include a labor of love).
There are some other holidays going on today such as:
August Bank Holiday - originally created to give bankers the day off so they could attend cricket matches ( @manish-spiceworks would be a fan of this!), it is a day many residents of the U.K. will head off to local beaches, parks, and tourist attractions. Apparently this was last Monday, the internet lied to me.
- Vinayaka Chaturthi – also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, is a Hindu holiday festival that is observed on on the fourth waxing moon day during the month of Bhadrapada. The purpose of this festival is to honor the god Ganesha who is also known as Vinayaka.
- National Day (Vietnam) - commemorates President Hồ Chí Minh reading the Declarations of independence of Vietnam at Ba Đình Square in Hanoi on 2 September 1945
And last but not least, Keanu Reeves was born on September 2, 1964! Whoa, I didn’t realize he was that much older than me.
So if it seems a little quieter in the Community, especially on a Monday, this is why. Hope everyone is starting the week off right and I can’t believe we are really only 3 weeks from SpiceWorld 2019!
What did you spend today doing?

Keanu Reeves was work!? Breathtaking!
As an Englishman today has been business as usual here. The August bank holiday was last Monday, the only thing going on today is that the school year starts

Us English have got to wait until Christmas day until our next one, you Scots get 2nd December off for St Andrew’s day AND you get an extra Hangover day on the 2nd January!
Mind you I think I prefer the English/Welsh calendar where we get Easter Monday and August Bank Holiday at least there’s half a chance of decent weather.

News to me that we get St Andrews day off - I’ll have to tell my employer - don’t think they know either. Never been a public holiday in Scotland AFAIK
Generally speaking for the last 20 years we just get public holidays added to our annual allowance except for 25/26th Dec and 1st Jan and you take the rest as and when you please - suits me much better than being told I have to take specific days off (especially if it’s for bankers to watch cricket!!)

Today is a holiday? Oh yeah: All upper management have the day off. We can actually get things done today without interruption.

We have most of our staff off today, so working on things without interruptions is nice.

Us Scots in England did!
This is sorely missed. Sorely.
I was celebrating Keanu day.

Not to nitpick, but Labor Day has it’s creation directly tied to labor unions. it’s not just a " national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."
