Hi, I am a new to SW. I don’t know how to import my devices from my spreadsheet to SW.

Currently, I am using SW Version 7.4.00065. So could anyone help to show step by step of this problem? Thanks

You can bulk import with some limitations as mentioned here - http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/203-import-devices-into-spiceworks-from-a-csv-file?page=11 .

However, it may be beneficial to just have Spiceworks scan and detect the devices on your network first. After all are scanned into inventory, there is no longer a need to import. That way you have Spiceworks scanning your devices, can schedule the scans, setup monitors and alerts for devices going offline, disk space usage, etc. Or maybe just import any devices that Spiceworks cannot scan.

Dear NetworkNerd,

At First, I saw this topic too. But I didn’t understand clearly about what they write. Now I try to read it again, then I understand and can import successfully.

But some problems still remain. I don’t know how to add all devices into the right Group. Do you know how? Can I assign it from CSV file?

Stay tune,

Hey Dara,

Currently, you’ll need to manually assign the devices to the correct group if they don’t appear correctly after the import. I did some digging recently and don’t see any way to specify the inventory group within the import.

Hi Jon,

Thank for your comment. So I need to manually add them to the right group.

Hey Dara,

That’s right. Once the devices are imported, you can navigate to them and add them to the correct group.

Is there a way yet of being able to auto add them to the correct group. I’m looking to be bulk adding a few thousand devices in the next 2 weeks. I don’t want to have to change them manually!!!

I could really use the ability to add the bulk import devices to the proper group as well. I’m going to have to touch hundreds of devices one by one to get them in the right group.

I’m also importing a lot of HP zBook computers. These need the “Product Number” in order to function with the warranty scan. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a way to add this attribute during the bulk import either.

@Richard:

You could use the app ‘Easy Asset Editor’ for bulk specifying e.g. the correct device type.
After that is done you could define custom groups in Settings / Inventory / Custom Groups and make you an group rule to automaticaly sort in your devices in this groups :
