Good Afternoon,

SO I am trying to figure out an alternative to spending 300.00 dollars a year on logmein central. I just got of the horn with teamviewer and they told me 880.00 for a permeant license… However I know that we don’t have that kind of money in our budget right now. Could I setup a remote desktop connection to all 40 of my machines within our company, that wouldn’t cost us anything but I worry about security issues… If you are aware of any options please let me know! Thank you!

Are all 40 on the same network? Do they use a VPN? Are you looking just to remote in, or do you want to screen share with the user?

Maybe this. http://www.mikogo.com/solutions/it-tech-support/

We use TeamViewer and it’s awesome. I’ll for sure vouch for it.

Good questions. VNC and a VPN would do the job.

Exactly! And free!

For $880 it better be!

I use TeamViewer for personal use to support friends and family around the country, and yes it’s great. But OP is looking for no cost.

You might want to look at Remote Utilities “per operator” (per concurrent operator) license. It includes unlimited remote installations and you only pay for the number of simultaneously working operators.

I would invite you to look at DameWare Mini-Remote Control which is $259 (one-time) for a single-user perpetual license, and 20% annual maintenance for upgrades and support.

Optionally you might also consider the full DameWare Remote Support product (which includes DMRC) for an additional $90 (one-time).

Setup a free account with teamviewer.

Have it setup on a computer connected to your MDF (main) switch. Make sure you have vnc and some type of wake-on-lan utility on it as well.

Have vnc installed on all of your computers.

Use the one computer connected to your mdf switch to “jump” to other pc’s as needed.

I would take a look at “Remote Utilities”, it gives you everything Teamviewer does, but also remote command prompt - I use it for my personal systems and it works a charm.

Cant do $25/mo. for LMI? That is a tight budget!!

I would go the VNC route.

VNC or Chrome Remote Desktop, I’ve started using Chrome Remote Desktop for my personal comptuers and some computers at the office that I need access to, since LogMeIn Free is gone after over a decade of using that.

I would second looking into Remote Utilities and add the possibility of either Splashtop Enterprise/Business. I am using both of them trying to find an out just in case LMI makes changes again to my Central account. Good luck! You can also check out the posts regarding LMI alternatives as there are several great suggestions in those threads.

Guys thanks for the info. Lots of fantastic ideas… The problem is that our sites are all over the place… So I would have to setup vpn concentrators at each office and those cost money!! I am thinking about the chrome Remote Desktop idea??

Unlimited unattended clients, which is nice. I’m guessing they had a lot of Central peeps moving that way, there have been an influx of forum posts recently. http://www.screenconnect.com/

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Spicework’s free software allow you to use VNC and RDP built in? Why not just do this? Are all of your workstations connect locally or through VPNs?
